About the role:
Skybox Imaging is looking for an experienced lead satellite operations controller to perform monitoring and command functions for Skybox?s revolutionary imaging satellites, as well as supervise and train the remainder of the controller crew.
The lead satellite operations controller shall have a demonstrated record of executing operation plans, controlling satellites, and managing personnel. Candidates must have experience with satellite command and telemetry systems, mission planning systems, operational functions of a mission control system, and manning 24/7 operations. Understanding of satellite subsystems (e.g. electrical, software, mechanical, guidance & control, payloads, etc) is required. This position requires the lead controller to have a proven track record of executing detailed operations plans while working with engineers from a variety of disciplines (ground software, product, satellite subsystems).
Monitor Skybox spacecraft for proper operation, responding to all off-nominal contingencies (telemetry limit violations, configuration and status changes, power and/or thermal anomalies, etc).
Execute the operational plan for the satellites and associated ground systems, according to established procedures
Execute the operational flow from satellite task planning to data delivery to the production environment
Follow a set of routine flight procedures and flight rules to safely operate the satellites, documenting issues as they arise
Operate satellite and ground system monitoring and maintenance tools, to include troubleshooting of network issues
Participate in mission scenario testing to validate operational readiness
Manage 24/7 personnel shift schedules
Develop and implement controller training and certification programs
Participate in multiple satellite launch campaigns
Execute innovative mission operations solutions to minimize resources and scale effectively with constellation
Skills and Experience:
Bachelors Degree from accredited college or technical school
8+ years experience, with at least 5 years directly in satellite mission operations, with experience leading others
Working knowledge of satellite subsystems (Power, Thermal, Attitude Control, etc)
Understanding of scripting languages and general computer administration tasks
Experience developing, writing, and teaching operational procedures
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Superior decision-making and critical-thinking skills
Ability to work independently
