The Levindale Onsite PIC/Pharmacist Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and general operations of production activities in the Levindale Onsite Pharmacy.
Responsible for building and leading a cohesive team capable of operating a fully functioning specialty/chronic hospital pharmacy operation.
Responsible for the hiring, development, and disciplinary functions associated with staff pharmacy management.
Responsible for and supervises the overall activities of onsite pharmacy production environment including oversight of duties of the order entry and dispensing technicians and part-time pharmacists.
Monitors staff performance for productivity, accuracy, and quality. Takes appropriate steps to maintain staff performance levels are at or above standards to include retraining or performance improvement programs.
Identifies and implements opportunities to improve operations including, but not limited to, cost reduction, productivity improvement, increased capacity, improved quality, enhanced service and best practices workflows.
Chairs, prepares and reports on various clinical and pharmaceutical initiatives and monitoring programs for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee.
Monitors the effectiveness of clinical programs and reports on them to the P&T Committee.
Assists in the creation and execution of various medication management policies throughout the specialty hospital environment.
Ensure products are stored appropriately and securely.
Ensure medication reaches the patient in the correct form and dosing.
Responsible for the accurate dispensing and timely distribution of drugs and medicines for patients.
Supervising and checking the work of less experienced and less qualified staff.
Responding to medication-related queries from within the hospital and corresponding LTC facilities.
Assist in writing guidelines for drug use within the hospital/facility and the creation and maintenance of Joint Commission medication management standards.
Participating in ward rounds, taking patient drug histories and contributing to the treatment decision-making process ? this includes highlighting a drug?s potential side effects, identifying harmful interactions with other drugs and assessing the suitability of treatments for patients with particular health conditions;
Liaising with physicians, nurses and other fellow health care professionals to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and economic drug treatment;
Counseling patients on the effects, dosage and route of administration of their drug treatments, particularly those who require complex drug therapy;
Monitoring every stage of medication therapy to improve all aspects of delivery and reporting patient side effects;
Preparing and quality-checking sterile medications under special conditions (e.g. Intravenous medications for those unable to take food, anti-cancer medications, eye drops, etc.).
Participates in other special projects or training to identify and implement operational and clinical improvements.
Ability to work with others in a positive, productive manner that anticipates and responds to the positions areas of responsibilities.
Other duties as directed or assigned by manager.
BS or PharmD in Pharmacy required, licensed in the state of MD required. Strong computer knowledge and skills in report development using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Minimum of two years direct management in a day-to-day production operation in a hospital environment or acute long term care pharmacy environment. Experience with budget development and management coupled with management of large staff required.
Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and written with English as the primary language. Must have exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate and lead, strong problem solving abilities, and a strong customer service focus.
Must be dependable with ability to be flexible, function independently and works under pressure with multiple tasks and deadlines. Must have strong organizational, time management skills, ability to problem solve.
This position must exhibit maturity in judgment and the ability to supervise a stand-alone pharmacy operation.

This position requires the ability to exert up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally and/or lift, carry, push or move objects. Position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time during the work day.
