Summary of Functions:
The Logistics Analyst-Business Development Support is a key position, requiring detailed knowledge of logistics and transportation. It is an important role supporting business development activity in New Breed?s Transportation Management Group, and the jobholder must be a ?self starter? and able to work without the necessity of close supervision.
This Logistics Analyst must also be able to communicate well with internal customers, external customers, and suppliers. The jobholder will work with the development team to analyze and develop transportation solutions for customers in a wide range of business sectors. The Logistics Analyst- Business Development Support must be very computer literate, with hands-on experience with transportation analysis systems - preferably tools from i2 Technologies.
Collaborate with the development team representative and customer to obtain detailed data about the customer?s business and supply chain. The Analyst will determine the type and amount of data required.
Analyze the data to produce options, and collaborate with the Development Manager to design the solution for the customer. The Analyst will be accountable for producing feasible and technically accurate options, which help determine the choice of a strong business case for the customer.
Document agreed solutions for the Development Manager.
Set up and maintain data files and tariffs in the analysis software.
Develop, test and maintain strategy files in the analysis software.
Set-up and maintain all other data as necessary to ensure that the analysis software delivers optimal results
Recommended Knowledge and Skill requirements:
The Logistics Analyst- Business Development Support must have direct knowledge/skills in the following areas:
All modes of transportation, including comparative differences between various modes, and the effects of those differences
Rating and pricing schemes and methods for all transportation modes, including the mechanics of LTL class-rate tariffs, small parcel zone-based tariffs, and TL mileage-based tariffs; as well as the basis for accessorial charges
Freight classification systems including NMFC classification and density-based classifications
Concepts that affect transportation costs, including lane balance, backhaul versus headhaul, seasonal capacity, transit time requirements, freight handling characteristics, etc.
Interrelationships and impact of all components within the supply chain
Vehicle cube utilization and proper loading techniques
Must be self-confident and have outstanding communications skills; written and verbal
Solid experience operating modeling software applications (examples, RoutePro, Road Show, Road Net, TruckStops, i2 Transportation Modeler or Manager, i2 Supply Chain Strategist)
Microsoft Windows operating system, Microsoft Office productivity programs, and common industry specific programs such as Rand McNally MileMaker, ALK PC-Miler, and SMC3 LTL rating engines
Data management with spreadsheet and database applications
Solid analytical and troubleshooting skills with superior problem solving ability
The candidate will be willing to travel
The candidate will be capable of operating in a busy, demanding environment within a highly motivated team
Collaborate closely with FM operations, regarding carrier selection on secured business
Recommended Previous Work experience requirements:
Minimum 3 years operational experience in a logistics (Supply Chain Management or Transportation) planning function
Experience in a logistics environment either for a large organization?s logistics department, a 3PL or consulting company
Recommended Education Requirements
College / University Graduate with either B.A. or B.S. degree (preferably in Engineering, Operations Research or Logistics)
