Low Vision Specialist/Field Support Specialist Second Sight Medical Products
Second Sight, located in Sylmar, CA, is searching for a Low Vision Specialist/Field
Support Specialist. You will be responsible for supporting the low vision rehabilitation of
blind patients implanted with a retinal prosthesis. This role also includes providing
technical field support, including patient and device testing and advanced diagnostics for
hardware/software issues. The Low Vision Specialist/Field Support Specialist will also
support the internal research and development of the low vision rehabilitation program and
provide field feedback to R&D and other cross-functional teams.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
? Support low vision rehabilitation of patients implanted with a retinal prosthesis.
? Provide training to implanting sites including rehabilitation therapists, clinicians, and
patients, on the rehabilitation program and implant system.
? Provide technical support to site personnel who are programming the Argus II
? Liaise between internal staff and therapists/physicians/clinicians
? Must be willing to travel nationally up to 70% and stay up to one week at an implanting
? Point of contact for challenging rehabilitation cases. Provide input into the
management of these cases.
? Support internal research and development on the visual rehabilitation program,
including curriculum development, rehabilitation tools, and guidance materials.
? Test patients in the field while adhering to the clinical protocol and document the
? Analyze field data and provide written site reports.
o Bachelor?s degree required (science or technical field preferred). Master?s
degree, OD, OT, CLVT, or COMS preferred.
? Experience Required:
o Must have 2 years of experience working with low vision or blind patients in
a research or vision therapy role. o Experience evaluating and training orientation and mobility skills, including
the use of devices and mobility aids, and/or experience training patients in
the use of low-vision devices for activities of daily living preferred.
o Experience with implantable telescopes or other implanted vision devices is
? Required Knowledge:
o Working knowledge of ophthalmologic and optometric terminology, eye
diseases, optical devices, and illumination devices required.
o An understanding of the application of electrical stimulation for biomedical
prostheses and/or familiarity with mechanical, electrical, software, or bioengineering principles preferred.
? Travel Requirements:
o Must be willing to travel up to 70 and with short notice. No visa issues or
other travel limitations are preferred
