If so, the Manager, Brokerage Sales role is a key position within our organization that allows you to develop and mentor our brokers as well as drive our core business.
The Manager, Brokerage Sales position is responsible for the overall management and business results of an assigned freight brokerage sales team. As both an expert in the Freight brokerage industry and a business leader, the Manager functions as a general manager of their individual business unit, through the daily management of a team of Freight Brokers and assigned support team members. With a strong focus on broker development and coaching, the Manager drives the growth and overall results of the business by insuring all Brokers have the necessary training, coaching, support and resources to be successful in their roles. The individuals in this position are empowered to make smart decisions and exercise sound judgment related to the management of their team. Must create a performance driven yet supportive culture that maximizes each Broker's strengths. The Manager is responsible for the development of Brokers to drive the attainment of the team's annual sales and financial results.
The Manager is responsible for working with each individual Broker to develop a specific business plan for that Broker's book of accounts. Working together with the Broker, the Manager will assist in cultivating the book of business to find additional opportunities to earn additional business from existing customers. Further, the Manager will support the Broker's efforts to attain new business opportunities by working on various strategies for referrals, niche markets, and various product offerings to meet the needs of potential customers.
The Manager will provide ongoing coaching and development of team members, including regular side-by-side coaching sessions and performance driven 1 on 1 meetings.
With a strong degree of business acumen and knowledge of the freight industry, the Manager develops and executes a defined business plan for the Sales team. While focused on maximizing Gross Margin and overall profitability of the team, the Manager prioritizes support services, allocates resources to individual brokers, and cultivates the team's book of business.
The Manager must readily identify core business issues and root causes in order to provide solutions that are in alignment with the Company's growth goals.
The individuals in this role will effectively communicate information to their teams in a timely manner. The Manager will evaluate performance on an ongoing basis and quickly work to implement development activities if concerns or risks are identified. With a constant focus on the importance of Broker development and retention, the Manager will provide consistent feedback and coaching related to both short and long term career goals and planning. As the general manager of their team, execute a plan to develop, retain, and promote each broker in order to create a high performance team.
Will partner with senior management and HR to address broker development, performance and employee relations matters, attendance, and other employee issues.
Bachelor?s degree preferred. Relevant equivalent experience may be considered.
Minimum 18 months relevant successful freight brokerage experience required. Previous sales leadership experience is also required; equivalent relevant team leadership, mentoring or coaching experience may be considered.
Strong leadership, coaching, and general management skills with the ability to drive performance and motivate team to achieve goals. Must have a strong degree of business acumen with the ability to provide strategic direction to a team of Brokers.
Driven sales orientation with the ability to build relationships with team, customers and carriers.
Ability to occasionally travel to meet customers in person (5% or less of work time).
Strong time management and planning skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to demonstrate good phone etiquette
Strong customer service skills, problem solving abilities and ability to multi-task
Knowledge of freight / transportation industry preferred
PC skills with working knowledge of MS Office product
