Job Description:
Reporting to the CIO, the Systems & Network Operations Manager/Director will be responsible for a high-availability customer facing business critical 24-7 SaaS environment where uptime is critical and requires immediate response to service impacting issues. You must have a strong handle on breadth & depth of current Operations technology with hands-on experience, a good understanding of systems strategy development, excellent communication skills and a passion for high-quality sustainable production operations. The right candidate must be a leader with a passion for reducing operational failures with structured & strategic leveraging of people, process & technology.
Responsibilities:
Architectural guidance, vendor selection & contribute forward thinking ideas and technology concepts to maintain high availability, scalability and robustness of our infrastructure.
Managing the day-to-day operation of a 24x7x365 Systems, Network & Database group.
Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex technology issues efficiently.
Work closely with the Engineering team to escalate issues for triage and resolution.
Develop policies, procedures, and processes to ensure that ?Best-Practices? are implemented and followed by operations staff.
Prioritize the team activity between projects & production critical support requirements.
Maintain communication and status of incidents with other functional teams.
Routinely review tickets and manage the post-mortem process to identify trends/chronic issues.
Responsible for managing and maintaining monitoring tools.
Audit proactive monitoring of all systems to detect and resolve problems to ensure uninterrupted operation of all infrastructure systems.
Development of KPI reports on infrastructure performance reported on a weekly basis.
Development of staff training plans, including recommendations for staff recruitment, retention, growth, and career development.
Keeping management informed of status on all issues and projects.
Owning/updating operational Run-books for all production systems.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
Minimum of 10 years of experience working in a technology operations group environment, with at least a 4 years in a hands-on supervisory role.
SaaS / java / Linux environment experience a definitive advantage.
Strong technical systems & application operations experience with the capability of stepping in and assisting the team in trouble-shooting and triage of incidents, bringing issues to rapid resolution.
Extensive working knowledge of the following technologies and areas:
Systems ? Linux, Unix, Java & Opensource software
Networking ? Protocols, Load Balancers, VPN, Cisco IOS, Switches, Routers, PIX/ASA Firewalls, NIS, SNMP, SMTP
Enterprise Servers ? Sun Enterprise, Dell Servers
Storage Technologies ? SAN, NAS, DAS, VxFS, UFS, NFS
Operating Systems ? Solaris SPARC/x86, Linux, Windows, shell scripting
Database ? Oracle Enterprise Edition, Dataguard, RAC, MS SQLServer, mySQL
Virtualization technologies ? Solaris Zones/Containers, VMware
Application Servers ? Tomcat, Resin
Java ? JVM configuration, tuning and troubleshooting
Monitoring Tools ? Nagios, Cacti, Sitescope, etc.
Ability to develop, document, and publish operational processes and procedures.
Ability to work with vendors & carriers in the provisioning and maintenance of services.
Ability to manage and mentor a team of at least 56 technical professionals.
Ability to prioritize & balance team activity between strategic projects for longer term impact ?and- immediate production critical requirements with a customer focus.
Must be a self-starter and require minimal guidance.
Must have demonstrated leadership and problem solving abilities through work experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills essential.
Ability to take on-call rotation & co-ordinate work under production critical situations is essential.
Four year technology degree or equivalent experience.
