Description:The Manager of Environmental Health and Safety will Plan, Establish and Oversee EH&S programs and activities to ensure a safe and productive work environment for Aspen Aerogels, Inc. employees. The position reports to the Director of Environmental health & Safety and is based in East Providence, RI.
Duties:?Direct the activities of the Environmental Health & Safety Department to ensure that Aspen facilities comply with all internal policies and procedures as well as all pertinent Federal, State and local government regulations. Responsible for managing the development and implementation of policies, practices and training programs which promote a safe and healthy work environment.
?Direct and support the companies ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 efforts.
?Ensure that employees participate in continuous improvement of the work environment and increase safety awareness to ultimately provide a safer work environment for all employees. Manage all of the activities related to environmental compliance, regulatory permitting, hazardous waste handling, and waste reduction/recycling programs.
?Ensure appropriate resources are in place and accountabilities clearly defined to establish and maintain operating and administrative procedures, audit compliance, and maintain a focus of continuous improvement and communications.
?Ensure that programs and training are in place to maintain a high level of employee awareness to safety and environmental policies and procedures. Manage the process of auditing operations and procedures along with assigned staff maintain a presence in the factory and at department meetings to support enforcement and training efforts with Department management.
?Provide feedback and input on department operating budget.
?Coordinate the establishment and utilization of the EP Plant EH&S Committee.
?Oversee the activities of the EH&S Technician & EH&S Specialist.
Health: Establish standards to ensure a healthy atmosphere for employees to work.
?Ensure that Aspen facilities are in compliance with all regulations associated with industrial hygiene hazards including maintenance of appropriate documentation, training programs and training records.
?Maintain all records and monitor trends related to all employee work related injuries and illnesses and facilitate resolution of plant-wide safety issues.
?Establish health & wellness programs for employees to foster a greater sense of well being ? at work and at home.
?Establish injury awareness programs that aim to increase awareness of risks and bring attention to safe work practices. Manage Company responses to customer issues, complaints, concerns..
Safety: Establish and coordinate the teaching, training, and enforcement of applicable federal, state and local requirements that pertain to employee safety in the manufacturing environment.
?Provide training at specified intervals on required EH&S programs and topics.
?Responsible for ensuring that all operations are in compliance with OSHA regulations.
?Manage the Process Safety Management Program for Aspen facilities establishing element managers to oversee and implement requirements of the standard.
?Actively participate in PSSR with Facilities Maintenance and Engineering staff.
oEnsure safety related concerns are captured and addressed.
?Work with the R&D and Manufacturing Management to ensure that all chemicals are evaluated and that appropriate training and personal protective equipment evaluations are completed.
oEnsure that the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) database is maintained.
oEnsure that necessary reports are documented and distributed with regard to the use and storage of chemicals at Aspen facilities to all Federal, State and local agencies.
?Ensure that the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) process is incorporated and followed in the assignment of new work and projects.
?Establish and oversee Contractor Safety Program to ensure the health & safety of contract employees.
Environment: Establish and maintain practices and procedures to ensure full compliance with all applicable federal, state and local environmental regulations.
?Ensure that permits required by environmental agencies are up to date and procedures are in place to obtain and update them as required.
?Maintain procedures for compliance with all air, water, and sewer, and hazardous waste regulations.
?Ensure that all waste management programs are in place including hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal, solid and universal waste management, and recycling.
?Ensure processes and equipment are monitored for emissions or releases.
oOversee installation of instrumentation to monitor compliance.
?Ensure that Air emissions are monitored and maintain compliance with facility permits on file with respective Environmental Agencies.
Ensure appropriate training, procedures, and auditing are in place and corrective actions/preventative actions are assigned, tracked and closed within specified timeframes.
Qualifications:?Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and foster a
compliant safety-first culture.
?Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment and customer- focused skills
?Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing leading EH&S activities, work experience in the chemical industry strongly preferred.
?Familiar with Process Safety guidelines associated with the chemical industry Experience managing direct reports in matrix organization
Bachelor Degree in EH&S discipline or related science/engineering area preferred.
