Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesSendmail's Engineering team is looking for a Manager of Software Development to manage and lead a team of talented and experienced individuals and, above all, "to make it happen". Our Engineers own the technical ownership for design, quality, scalability, and implementation of major features in Sendmail's Sentrion Appliance. While not necessary the technical leader, the manager is highly technical, and uses this technical knowledge to:
Ensure that we ship a world-class product
Manage risk and priorities in order to ship this world-class product on-time and with quality
"Wow" our customers
Develop and deploy software development processes
Assist C, Perl, and shell developers and quality assurance engineers
This distributed team will vary from five to eight people, some of them remote (in the US). The Manager of Software Development will be both a first line manager and a member of an Engineering team and coordinate with Product Management and Operations to ensure the smooth and timely delivery of products.
Required Skills
Unrelenting commitment to customers; passionate about delivering high quality customer-friendly products
Mastery of software development methodologies; experience with Extreme Programming, Scrum or Agile Software Development is a plus
Ability to initiate and implement change as well as a flexible, positive, can-do attitude
Ability to define achievable goals while nurturing innovation
Strong project management skills including the ability to identify and mitigate non-obvious risks to the development process
Absolute dedication to leading your team to meet or exceed its goals, while mentoring and coaching individuals
Ability to collaborate effectively with Product Managers to craft a product vision
Ability to coordinate the efforts of developers, QA, and technical publications
Strong knowledge of the technologies and infrastructure surrounding secure enterprise messaging
Must know how to direct a team to build secure, reliable, efficient, robust, flexible, scalable, extendable, maintainable, and portable applications
Hands-on experience with the internals of messaging and/or security products; knowledge of corporate messaging architecture and implementing large scale distributed applications are big plus
Strong written, oral, and presentation skills
Experience
Demonstrated leadership experience
Prior experience in a similar role as a manage of software development of a mission critical enterprise product is an absolute must; at least 2 years as manager and total experience of 5 - 10 years in enterprise software
Minimum of a B.S. in Computer Science or a related field
