Manager, Payroll & Benefit Administration
Etsy is seeking a Manager of Payroll and Benefits, to be based in Brooklyn, NY, and reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources. This new position will entail a combination of payroll and benefit responsibilities. Etsy is experiencing rapid growth globally, and is in the process of building out its HR team. The individual who fills this position will be expected to collaborate with the broader HR team and other functions to drive the formation of a world-class payroll operation.
About the position
For Payroll Duties:
Responsible for implementing and administering in-house US Payroll systems and operations.
Establishing the processes and procedures and maintaining guidelines for the collection, calculation, and entering of payroll, benefits, and HRIS data.
Responsible for the full-lifecycle of the payroll process, from entry to settlement.
Preparing management and analytical reports as needed.
Liaising with the Etsy accounting and finance department to ensure proper accounting of all payroll liabilities and payments, as well as resolving any discrepancies.
Responsible for responding to periodic audits of payroll data and processes initiated by internal staff or external agencies.
Complying with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
Participating in the evaluation and implementation of global payroll services, and assisting with the consolidation of worldwide payroll information.
For Benefit Duties:
Plays a pivotal role in selecting, implementing, and managing Etsy?s benefits partners and vendors.
Ensuring well defined practices are followed to ensure data integrity for all benefit eligibility and enrollment data.
Administering the Etsy 401k plan; including ensuring the timely remittance of employee funds to the third party plan administrator. Ensuring that all eligibility and enrollment processes are well understood by employees. Developing processes to ensure that all elections and changes are recorded and processed accurately.
Designing educational programs on the benefit programs at Etsy; this includes, but is not limited to, presenting at orientation meetings, writing plan summaries or communications, and providing one-on-one guidance for employees.
Ensuring legal compliance by monitoring and implementing appropriate disclosures notifications to employees.
Partnering with internal staff and external consultants and vendors to assist in the research and recommendations for benefit programs appropriate for our staff outside the US.
The position requires a seasoned Payroll/Benefits professional capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast paced organization. This individual must have excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills and be able to work effectively across organizational and functional teams. S/he must be highly organized and skilled at creating structures and definition in situations that are uncertain. The successful candidate will adapt quickly to change and will champion the advancement of Benefits and Payroll systems, tools, and controls that will enhance the employee experience at Etsy.
Experience in managing an in-house payroll operation using large packaged/hosted software (e.g. Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP, Ultimate Software, Workday, etc.) is required.
5 - 7+ years of progressive experience in a Benefits and/or Payroll role, inclusive of direct experience in both disciplines.
Creative self-starter and problem solver with tolerance for ambiguity.
Bachelor?s degree from four-year college or university is preferred.
Experience serving in a publicly traded company is a plus.
Familiarity with the processing of employee equity transactions (e.g stock options exercises/ restricted stock lapses) is highly desired.
Significant experience in presenting and communicating to key business owners and senior management.
Has played a key role in an HR/PR ERP implementation.
Familiarity with International Payroll and Benefits experience a plus.
Desired Skills/Qualifications: Data analysis; Data entry; Attention to detail; Maintain confidentiality; Organized; Strong interpersonal skills; Familiarity with wage/hour laws; Process management; People management; Must demonstrate advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
Experience with Workday a definite PLUS!
