As our Managing Editor based you will be responsible for the successful day-to-day operations of our in-house compelling and reference content initiatives as well as our freelance writing and editorial teams. Your mission will be to educate prospective students by producing high-quality web content that adheres to internal editorial guidelines and SEO best practices, resulting in a significant increase in web traffic and search engine rankings. It will be your charter to set our voice, tone and editorial style when connecting with students. Proven experience in writing and editing SEO content as well as leading freelance teams of content producers are the foundation skills needed to help create valuable information at scale. Proven knowledge of the education industry, on-page SEO, and the ability to create training manuals and editorial guidelines are characteristics of top performers. Key objectives for this role:
Create training manuals and style guides for best practices and consistency
Create detailed article guidelines and templates for writers to follow
Create detailed editorial guidelines and scoring system
Create quality assurance measures and effectively track them
Create scalable processes for high growth across university clients
Create budgets and proposals for payment structures
Hire, fire, evaluate and promote freelance writers and editors to meet quality and volume standards
Manage third party freelance contractor services/platforms
Assist team with unique story ideas regarding our faculty, students and alumni
Write high quality content for our web properties, monthly newsletters, etc.
The ideal candidate will have:
Strong writing, journalism, editing background
Detail oriented personality with a ruthless bias towards quality
Ability to train both writing and editing staff
Proven track record of managing content at scale
Proven track record of editing articles and content effectively
Proven understanding and demonstration of writing SEO driven content that is user friendly
High level of experience with WordPress or similar platforms
Writing/editing background in the higher education field (a big plus)
