Reporting to the Vice President of Manufacturing, the Manufacturing Engineer (Systems) will be responsible for manufacturing system test, process optimization, and new product transfer into manufacturing for liquid handling instruments made by Labcyte Inc.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in developing, maintaining and improving efficient instrument manufacturing systems and processes. She/he will have a superior understanding of analog and digital electronics, mechanics, software and SPC. This position will also be an active member of development teams to ensure reliable, manufacturable, testable, and cost-effective designs for new products.
Job Responsibilities:
Improve existing and establish new test operations for automated electro-mechanical systems, system calibrations, and final test
Develop, recommend, implement, document, and maintain methods, fixtures and processes required to meet product specifications, improve products and/or processes, and reduce costs
Train manufacturing personnel in required processes for product test, and monitor effectiveness of training and processes
Monitor existing, establish new and report on statistical quality metrics and test requirements
Diagnosis and troubleshoot technical issues involving systems in various stages of the manufacturing and calibration process
Specify new software tools and write scripts to be used on the manufacturing floor for instrument calibration and data analysis
Represent Manufacturing on product development teams
Assist with definition and execution of product validation testing; lead pilot efforts and release to Manufacturing
Interface with outside vendors to implement test procedures on outsourced assemblies
Other manufacturing tasks as required
Education, skills and experience:
BS in Engineering, Physics, or other related technical discipline ? advanced degree is a plus
Minimum of five years of relevant hands-on experience in manufacturing, testing, or design of capital equipment, including RF, stepper motors, linear motion control, digital and analog control, DC power, fluidics, and precision mechanisms
Deep knowledge of PC-based systems, PCI cards, serial busses, database systems, Windows, client/server architecture, etc.
Demonstrated experience in the analysis and improvement of manufacturing processes and operations in terms of cost, quality, and efficiency
Demonstrated proficiency in creating work instructions and procedures for manufacturing
Ability to integrate, test, and troubleshoot between electronic, optical, mechanical, and software subsystems
Ability to perform hands-on testing and troubleshooting of multidisciplinary (RF, motion, software, acoustics, electronics, etc.) systems using standard laboratory equipment
Ability to write software scripts; experience in VB.NET or C# is a plus
Analytical, methodical, and detail-oriented in planning and experimentation
Well-versed in statistics, DoE, DFM, etc.
Excellent oral and written communication, planning, organizational & interpersonal skills
Database experience, dealing with SQL Server databases, mining the data, warehousing, etc. is a plus
Familiarity with liquid handling and molecular biology a plus
