Build and lead a materials engineering team to create next generation products for displays and lighting using semiconducting nanoparticles (quantum dots). Solve material science related issues in multidisciplinary research and specialized production environment. Help is needed to solve problems in the following areas: high performance polymers, gas permeability of films, vacuum out-gassing of organics. QD Vision designs and manufactures a variety of specialized products with challenging material requirements. Research and study the structures and chemical properties of various manmade materials, including metals, alloys, rubber, ceramics, semiconductors, polymers, and glass. Determine ways to strengthen or combine materials or develop new materials with new or specific properties for use in a variety of products and applications.
Build and lead a team of engineers and scientists to develop an advanced technology packaging effort that will create the next generation of QD based downconverting optics and optical systems.
Identify critical technologies to achieve system performance goals and build in-house capability or develop partnerships that provide access to the technologies.
Understand the implications of QD specific processing requirements on final optical performance of our systems.
Partner with internal and external resources as necessary to provide, collect, and analyze specific system level measurements such as color points, optical and thermal system modeling and optimization, and reliability.
Conduct research into the structures and properties of materials, such as metals, alloys, polymers, and ceramics in order to obtain information that could be used to develop new products or enhance existing ones.
Devise testing methods to evaluate the effects of various conditions on particular materials.
Determine ways to strengthen or combine materials, or develop new materials with new or specific properties for use in a variety of products and applications.
Plan laboratory experiments to confirm feasibility of processes and techniques used in the production of materials having special characteristics.
Prepare reports of materials study findings for the use of other scientists and requestors. Recommend materials for reliable performance in various environments.
Solve engineering problems with designs related to material failures, such as dramatically reducing gas diffusion rates through hermetic joins in hybrid microelectronic packages. Test, validate, and prove performance of designs. Solve barrier problems in vacuum encapsulated microelectronic packages.
Patent and present scientific discoveries.
PhD in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering.
5-10 years hands-on experience including at least 3 years in product engineering or process engineering of glass based components or compounds.
Experience and knowledge working with high and low melting glasses.
Experience working with nanoparticles a plus.
Good leadership abilities and excellent communication skills are a must.
Knowledge and experience with chemical process design and thermal transport phenomena fundamentals, and able to effectively utilize these concepts to solve hard problems.
Demonstrated success in leading projects from conceptual design through creating working processes and equipment.
Hands-on, can-do individual, willing to take on challenges and drive results is required. Comfortable working in a fast paced, self managed environment with aggressive goals.
Organized, focused and data driven with an eye toward process development and transitioning research concepts into working technologies.
Strong relationship and organizational skills to effectively work with a positive team approach. Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels and functions of the organization to develop solutions to technical challenges.
Able to both independently manage priorities and take direction to change priorities based on the direction of managers and co-workers.
