Essential Job Description:
We are looking for a confident individual with a proven track record of developing marketing concepts into final mechanical designs that are optimized for cost and high-volume production. Responsibilities include:
Identify innovative design and process solutions to meet product requirements within product budget and schedules.
Document designs utilizing Solidworks software for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
Utilize PLM software to document bill of materials and creation of Engineering Change Orders.
Accurately inspect first article parts and perform design validation tests.
Support manufacturing and sustaining efforts for life of product.
Work within cross-functional team environment.
Accurately estimate individual and team schedules for given tasks and assume responsibility of meeting fixed deadlines.
Review and approval of tool designs, first article components, sub assemblies and finished products.
Create inspection reports and document corrective actions required.
Work with manufacturing partners to optimize design concepts for cost, quality and production.
Create test methods to qualify design concepts early in development phase through use of CAD, FEA, and rapid prototypes.
Geometric dimension and tolerance per ASME Y14.5M.
Experience/Qualifications:
2-5+ years experience with electro-mechanical product development of consumer electronics.
Bachelor?s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for prototyping, fabricating and finishing of metal and plastic components.
Ability to identify root causes and implement design improvements.
History developing assemblies with moving components, electrical contacts, advanced user interfaces and light pipes for back lighting.
Understanding of PLM documentation management for part number, BOM and engineering change creation.
Experience working with overseas manufacturing is a plus.
Skills Required:
Strong knowledge of Solidworks 2009/2010 3D CAD/CAE software.
Excellent communicator who thrives on solving problems and desire to own development of product from concept through to production.
Proficient with MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and PLM (Omnify).
Working knowledge of tools for fabrication of prototypes.
Skilled with use of quality inspection tools to verify components/assemblies meet specified tolerances.
Proven knowledge of stress analysis techniques is a plus.
