Job OverviewAbstracts demographic physician and patient information from patients' medical records and codes the diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9-CM/CPT codes
Responsibilities
Performs audits and reports on the accuracy of procedure ICD-9 and HCC coding
Reviews and audits institutional coding
Analyzes patient chart information for accuracy and completeness; clarifies vague or incomplete diagnostic information
Abstracts information from in-patient, out-patient, and physician records and inputs into a database
Assigns ICD-9-CM and HCC Coding
Qualifications
Coding Credential/Certification (CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-P)
Minimum of 3 years as a coder or auditor
Investigative skills, analytical, problem solving and research competence
Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology; anatomy; and physiology;
Basic knowledge of medical procedures and disease states/processes required.
Computer literacy
Effective written and verbal communication skills internally and with customers
Operates effectively with minimal direction
Keeps commitments and is eager to meet challenges with resourcefulness and innovation
Drug Screening and Background Check is required.
