Medical Coding Auditor Cogent Healthcare
Cogent Healthcare is seeking to add an experienced Medical Coding Auditor to our Team here in Brentwood, TN. The Medical Coding Auditor works under indirect supervision, audits medical charts and records for compliance with federal coding regulations and guidelines. Performs medical provider coding education using a variety of formats, including classroom, telephonic and internet based applications.
Audits medical record documentation to identify coding variances; prepares reports of findings.
Trains, instructs, and/or provides educational support via classroom, telephonic and internet based applications to medical providers regarding coding compliance documentation, regulatory provisions, and third party payer requirements.
Interacts with physicians and other patient care providers regarding billing and documentation policies, procedures, and regulations; obtains clarification of conflicting, ambiguous, or non-specific documentation.
Researches, analyzes, and responds to inquiries regarding compliance, inappropriate coding, denials, and billable services.
Interacts with providers and management to review audit findings.
Ensures strict confidentiality of patient and financial records.
Attends coding conferences, workshops, and in-house sessions to receive updated coding information and changes in coding and/or regulations.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience
Coding Certification required (CPC, CPC-H, CCS, CCS-P)
At least 2 years coding experience for Evaluation and Management services.
Ability to clearly communicate medical coding information to professional practitioners and/or the general public in a classroom, telephonic and internet application setting.
Knowledge of auditing concepts and principles.
Knowledge and understanding of medical coding and billing systems and regulatory requirements.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and policy compliance issues related to medical coding and billing procedures and documentation.
Ability to analyze and solve problems.
Detailed knowledge of medical coding systems, procedures, and documentation requirements.
Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
Ability to adapt, modify and prioritize audit functions as required.
