We build highly interactive, personalized shared-decision products help consumers find treatments that work. As part of that mission, we offer well-researched, engaging, instructive content across a wide range of health topics.
As a member of the Content Team, the Medical Researcher/Writer is responsible for user-facing health content and supporting back-end projects.
This is primarily a research and writing position, although the position also involves contribution to product development and strategic discussions. You would be responsible for the production of well-researched, well-written, user-facing content and associated projects for a health website.
Our audience is not the medical professional, but the patient. As such, candidates must be able to critically evaluate medical research and findings and translate them into service content for the average person.
Research and write high-quality, up-to-date, engaging, objective health content (such as treatment descriptions, condition descriptions, summaries of evidence-based medicine, glossaries of medical terminology)
Maintain Wiser Health?s editorial standards on scientific and clinical accuracy and appropriateness
Distill complex clinical language from medical journals, sources for clinicians, and summaries of trials, systematic reviews or meta-analyses into concise, easy-to-understand language
Collaborate with staff/freelance writers, physician advisors, social media managers and tech developers as needed
Ensure compliance with editorial templates, policies, and processes to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
Implement feedback and input from physician advisors and health editors
Experience in selecting relevant scientific and medical information to be included in content geared to patient audiences
Familiarity with the principles of evidence-based medicine and the use of health information to support clinical decision-making
Comprehension of technical and medical literature; knowledge of medical terminology
Sufficient knowledge to determine both clinical and statistical significance and validity of research results; ability to determine quality sources from unacceptable sources
Impeccable attention to detail, including grammar, punctuation and spelling; ability to produce high-quality content written with an ear for the rhythm of language and style
High comfort level with various technology applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, Google docs, project management systems (e.g., Jira), content management systems, internal wikis (e.g., Confluence)
Bachelor?s degree required in related field: e.g., journalism, English, marketing, pre-med, biology, communications, knowledge management
5-7 years experience in writing, communications, journalism, English, strategic marketing communications, knowledge management in healthcare field.
Experience writing Web-based consumer health/medical content is strongly preferred.
This position is also open to candidates in Los Angeles or New York. (Relocation not required.)
