Medicinal Chemist Promega
Promega Biosciences, located in San Luis Obispo, specializes in the design and synthesis of high quality organic chemicals as an integral part of Promega Corporation, a global life sciences company based in Madison, Wisconsin. Promega?s products are used by life science researchers in the areas of cellular analysis, proteomics and genetic analysis.
We are seeking a Medicinal Chemist who will design and synthesize targets for the biopharmaceutical research market. This person will troubleshoot synthetic chemistry problems in accordance with objectives of the research program and will represent Promega through substantial interaction with external scientific customers.
This is a temporary position with a term of 2-3 years.
Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry or Organic Chemistry with 5+ years of medicinal chemistry experience.
Broad knowledge in synthetic organic chemistry.
Must show technical proficiency and independent thought. Strong knowledge of scientific principles and concepts required. Must demonstrate deep understanding of structure-activity relationships (SAR).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience with standard characterization techniques required (NMR, UV-VIS, LC-MS, etc.)
Ability to present research results to others in group, senior management, outside customers.
Good computer skills, including working knowledge of relevant computer software applications such as Word, Excel, and Chem Draw.
Design and synthesize targets in assigned projects. Apply knowledge and experience to solve complex scientific problems.
Seamlessly interact and contribute to internal team of synthetic chemists and biologists.
Independently organize, develop, and execute research plans for assigned projects.
Maintain accurate and detailed research documentation. Prepare project status reports and other management reports
Present results to and elicit information from outside scientific collaborators as directed by upper management.
Interface with highly valued outside customers with professionalism.
Maintain high level of knowledge related to current developments in organic and medicinal chemistry.
Corrected vision for near (within 20 cm) and far (greater than 3 m) activities.
Able to speak clearly and simply.
Good hand, arm and finger dexterity.
Laboratory work requires some walking, lifting, pushing, kneeling, stooping, bending, sitting, squatting, standing and carrying of up to 20 pounds.
