Gilt Groupe is a fully funded company and is currently based in the vibrant Chelsea neighborhood in New York City. Gilt Groupe is seeking a Merchandise Assistant for Gilt Man who is interested in gaining the technical and practical knowledge of the buying process in the world of luxury goods and high-end fashion. The ideal candidate will be a proven self-starter who has a high taste level, an eye for trends, and experience with the inner-workings of the changing fashion world. A passion for luxury goods and a ?can do? approach are musts. The Merchandise Assistant will assist the buying office in preparation of private sale events that set Gilt Groupe apart from all competition. The Merchandise Assistant will be groomed to be Assistant Buyer upon demonstration of the necessary experience and skill set as determined by his/her Buyer and Director. Responsibilities:
Assisting the buying office with administrative, product and technical tasks pertaining to sale event preparation. Managing and training Merchandise Product Coordinators; overseeing the collection of detailed and accurate product information for each sale event.
Coordinating with warehouse-based staff and vendors to track and manage market, photo shoot, and editorial samples
Attending market as appropriate
Assisting the Buying Office with PO entry and maintenance
Generating sell-thru reports and assisting with market preparation
Requirements:
Four-year college degree
Retail and/or buying office experience recommended. Fashion/merchandising/design background a plus.
Excellent written and verbal skills
Strong knowledge of apparel terms and fabrications
Detail-oriented and conscientious
Ability to remain flexible and work independently
Ability to communicate effectively across the buying office, Gilt?s various teams, and a large matrix of vendors
Self-starter, ambitious in nature
