The Director of Merchandising manages multiple assigned product merchandising categories and leads the development of consumer relevant products that delivers against strategic, financial and brand objectives. Reporting to the VP or Merchandising, the Director of Merchandising will oversee a team of Buyers and Merchandising Assistants and is accountable for product strategy/execution for catalog/retail/web.
The Nitty Gritty:
Set challenging and productive goals for the team and holds them accountable for delivering results
Strategize long and short term sales/margin growth for designated merchandising categories
Develop and ensures execution of strategic operations
Strategically interprets and aligns consumer insight to all aspects of business
Lead team to strategize assortments to deliver sales/margin forecasts
Present product strategy/assortment to VP Merchandising
Participate in financial review meetings; identify corrective action necessary to maximize sales and margins
Initiate product development to capitalize on trends/consumer opportunities
Ensures team is driving product/pricing execution and timely receipts with vendors.
Responsible assortment and category planning
Oversee Buyer(s) , managers Assistant Buyers and Merchandising Assistants
Oversees private label product development for designated categories
Lead and inspire team(s) to action. Challenges and develops employees.
Studies and analyzes market/ industry trends and reports findings to Senior Merchandising team
Responsible for the management of vendor relations, including administration of vendor report cards
Manages reporting functionality and decision-making for assigned category(s)
Travel required to buying shows/ vendor sites
Other exciting projects as needed.
Position Must Have?s:
7+ years? experience
Horse experience preferred
Sophisticated communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent Excel and PC skills, as well as analytical abilities.
At least two years of direct management required
Ability to collect, analyze, interpret and organize data for management review, including defining problems, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communicator with demonstrated ability to motivate and lead.
Self-motivated and resourceful multi-tasker.
Attention to detail.
