Profile: Like working with large databases We are looking for a MYSQL DBA who will own and manage SlideShare's big and complex database server cluster. Apart from regular operations like data replication, backup, restoration, the challenge is to figure out how to push MySQL to it's limits through careful profiling and tuning. You'll need to work closely with developers to help design and modify database schemas, as well as profile and optimize their SQL. You'll also get to work on lots of cool scalability stuff like horizontal sharding and vertical partitioning.Desired Background: Degree in Computer Science; 3-5 yrs exp in similar role in a strong technology company; experience with MYSQL 5 and above; experience with MyISAM and InnoDB storage engines, large MySQL master-slave replication cluster, designing high performance database schemas and queries in a high traffic context; exposure to sharding, vertical partitioning, MySQL clustering, data mining. Bonus points to candidates with exposure to NoSQL technologies like BigTable, Cassandra, MongoDB, HBase, Redis etc.
