Network Analyst Silver Spring Networks
The Network Analysis team responsibility is to monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot wireless mesh networks of meters on behalf of our utility customers. We use some off-the-shelf tools but mostly develop our own tools and reports from the experience gained during troubleshooting investigations. We are involved in customer escalations, performance analysis, and the evaluation of SSN?s mesh technology when deployed in new and challenging environments. We are seeking to add a Junior Network Analyst to our team.
Monitor, analyze and troubleshoot mesh networks with tens of millions of wireless nodes.
Become extremely proficient in SSN?s mesh routing protocol and network management tools.
Create, document, and deploy ad-hoc scripts to support network analysis for SSN?s internal and external customers.
Develop scripts to monitor the performance of our customer networks. Develop requirements for the scripts based on the agreed performance metrics. Implement the necessary scripts, including coding, debugging, and testing. Add scripts to the team?s monitoring infrastructure. Serve as the escalation point for issues related to the script and the reports it generates.
Provide expertise in data gathering, troubleshooting, hypothesis creation and testing, event correlation and other analytical tasks in support of field troubleshooting, or engineering development.
Perform optimization of the mesh networks of our utility customers. Based on the optimization schedule, perform periodic analysis of the customer network, investigate and troubleshoot any issues on the customer network, create ad-hoc reports if needed, compile the results of the analysis into a customer facing presentation, coordinate with internal teams to verify any appropriate steps are being taken, lead/assist the customer call, explain the analysis and results, and follow up on customer questions and/or requests for further analysis.
Serve as a technical knowledge escalation point and a resource for customer facing personnel.
Interface with SSN?s customers as well as other internal SSN groups such as customer support, engineering, and customer operations.
Degree from a recognized college or university, with a bachelor?s degree in computer science, applied mathematics, mathematics, physics, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent qualifying work experience.
Basic experience with computer programming. The minimum requirement is to have taken several programming courses, and have developed substantial programs outside and beyond programming class exercises and projects.
Basic Unix Competence:
Strong verbal and/or written communication skills. This is a position that requires interfacing with other groups within SSN, with customers, and partners.
Ability to multi-task, create estimates and create and maintain schedules, and self-manage to complete tasks that have been agreed and communicated to other parties. Excellent follow through required.
At least one year of experience using Unix via a Unix shell.
Knowledge of how to use and editor, write, compile, debug, and run programs or scripts. Experience developing and troubleshooting scripts and programs.
Basic understanding of Unix internals.

2 or more years of experience using Unix via a Unix shell.
Understanding of Unix internals: processes, file I/O, etc.
