EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: EXEMPT REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Network Engineering
JOB CODE: LOCATION: MIRAMAR, FL
GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the general guidance of the Director of Network Engineering, the Network Engineer will help
design, implement, document and support MTN?s IP and satellite network and its related services. In addition, the Network Engineer
develops and documents network related products and standards to be deployed on MTN?s network. The position will be involved in
all affairs related to MTN satellite networks, satellite Space and Engineering.
? Designs and documents network segments, products and services.
? Will be the liaison between MTN Systems Engineering, Space Engineering, Network Engineering and ground uplink stations
? Will create and maintain detailed documentation and network drawings of MTN networks, RF chains and ground network
infrastructure at MTN earth stations.
? Develops tools to be used by the NOC for monitoring and control.
? Provides training and training materials on new products and services to Network and RF technicians.
? Provides 3rd
level technical support to the Network Services department.
? Helps plan adequate resources to maintain a balanced throughput through the terrestrial and satellite networks.
? Helps install and troubleshoot satellite networks from vendors such as iDirect, Comtech, and Newtec.
? Works independently to meet deadlines for assigned special projects, configuration and integration of new and existing systems
? Other related duties as may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
? BA or BS in a technical field with minimum 5 years of experience.
? Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP and general network theory desired.
? Advanced knowledge of Cisco routers equipment required.
? Cisco certifications: CCNA level required, CCNP desired.
? Experience with service provider MPLS networks desired.
? Extensive knowledge and hands on experience of iDirect technology, servers, protocol processors, line cards, and modems
? Experience with wide area networking including satellite, TDM circuits, and long haul Ethernet.
? Ability to work independently with aggressive deadlines under general guidance and deliver results.
? Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to explain complex subject matter in simple but accurate terms.
? Must be proactive, a team player, complete assigned task under strict deadlines and possess a can do attitude.
NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS: This position reports to the Sr. Director of Network Engineering and will interact with:
Systems and Space Engineering, ground earth stations personnel, Network Engineering, RF Engineering, satellite space providers,
Internal ? Network/RF Engineers, Network/RF Technicians, NOC, Sales team and Sales Engineers. External ? customer (technical
contacts), equipment vendors, Vendor Engineers and Technicians.
PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS: Must be able to use a standard keyboard and read small LCD and CRT screens. Some
domestic/international travel may be required. Must be able to lift and carry rack-mounted equipment of various sizes and weights up
to approximately 40lbs.
