Network Engineer II SeaMobile
RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Designs and documents network segments, products and services.
? Creates detailed technical documentation and specifications in the form of diagrams and white papers.
? Develops tools to be used by the NOC to monitor and control the network.
? Provides sales engineering support.
? Provides training and training materials on new products and services to Network and RF technicians.
? Provides 3rd level technical support to the Network Services department.
? Assists the Director of Network Engineering with responses to request for proposals (RFP?s)
? Serves as back up ?subject matter expert? (SME) on all network related issues in the absence of the Sr. Engineer.
? Schedules and executes upgrades on both the Cisco and iDirect networks.
? Helps plan adequate resources to maintain a balanced throughput through the terrestrial and satellite networks.
? Other related duties as may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
? BA or BS in a technical field or equivalent experience required. Minimum 5 years? experience required.
? Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP and general network theory desired.
? Advanced knowledge of Cisco routers and VOIP equipment required.
? Cisco certifications and formal training a plus.
? iDirect and Satellite knowledge a plus.
? Experience with wide area networking, including satellite, T1, ISDN and Frame-Relay.
? Ability to assist with the design of complex network segments, including load balancing, redundancy, security, QOS and MPLS.
? Ability to troubleshoot complex internetworking problems involving multiple routers and protocols.
? Experience with BGP and OSPF required.
? Experience with EIGRP and RIP a plus.
? Experience with UNIX, SNMP, and Shell Scripting desired.
? Ability to work independently under general guidance and deliver results.
? Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to explain complex subject matter in simple but accurate terms.
? Ability to work under pressure with aggressive deadlines.
NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS: This position reports to the Director of Network Engineering. Interacts with: Internal - Senior Technicians, Sales Account Managers, Sales Engineers, and Network Technicians. External ? customer (technical data contacts), equipment vendors, Network Engineers and Technicians.
PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS: Must be able to use a standard keyboard and read small LCD and CRT
screens. Some travel may be required. Must be able to lift and carry rack-mounted equipment of various sizes and weights up to approximately 40lbs.
