Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Network Engineer?s primary responsibilities are to support the corporate and production environments with respect to the development, management and support of the network infrastructure, to serve as part of the team that sets policy, monitors, prioritizes, and develops network standards, and to maintain service levels.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Design, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot global network infrastructure.
Responsible for proactively managing and optimizing infrastructure.
Travel to ChannelAdvisor data centers and offices to deploy and/or troubleshoot network / security equipment and phone systems.
Ensures the development and use of an effective preventive maintenance program suitable to meet the operation objective of 99.9% availability
Evaluate new network & security technologies for potential deployment.
As a member of the team, will respond to all network problems on a 7X24 basis and take part in on-call rotation.
Develops and deploys monitoring systems and the individual monitors and system checks.
Prepares periodic reports regarding unit's activities and goals attainment.
Proactively suggest alternative solutions and designs, third party tools, etc. to solve the problems at hand.
Has strong problem solving skills and the ability and desire to learn new technologies rapidly.
Able to deal effectively with internal and external groups including clients and vendors.
Develop, document, and review appropriate network and security standards
Engage and support network audits in support of compliance requirements
Required Skills
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering preferred or equivalent experience
Requires 7+ years administering network equipment in a production capacity
2-3 years of architecting highly scaleable, SaaS based network solutions.
An expert level understanding of layer 2 switching protocols and IP routing protocols including EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP
Expert level knowledge of Cisco products and IOS
Experience with high-availability technologies, including load-balancing and multi-site failover
Experience with Windows and Linux system administration, including scripting (Bash Perl, VBScript, etc.), in a web services environment
Knowledge of core internet technologies including, but not limited to DNS, SMTP, FTP and HTTP
Experience with common networking tools and techniques such as packet sniffing, traceroute, traffic shaping, and intrusion detection
Current knowledge of existing and emerging technologies
Experience coordinating and troubleshooting with vendors
Experience with compliance and associated audits, in particular PCI, SAS70, ISO27001
Experience administering load balancing technologies. Experience with F5 LTM and GTM a plus.
Experience administering next generation firewalls.
Excellent communication, writing, and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in development process
ITIL knowledge preferred
Proven ability to work independently or in a team environment
