Performs work in providing for the effective and efficient operation of the network infrastructure. Maintains routers, firewalls, VPN concentrators, layer 2 & 3 switches, Microsoft Windows Servers and workstations. Work involves planning, overseeing, developing, and implementing network policies and procedures and ensuring network integrity as maintenance and modification projects to existing applications are undertaken.
Required: Microsoft Windows 2000 (Pro and Server), Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP, Cisco IOS, general networking and security practices.
Additional: Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Enterprise Manager, Microsoft IIS, Foundry IOS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Monitors network health and ensures proper operation of all networking components.
Reviews project request describing network user needs.
Estimates time required to accomplish project.
Attends specification meetings with project team workers to determine scope and limitations of project(s).
Reviews workflow chart developed by programmers to understand tasks and their impact upon the network infrastructure.
Determines and enters changes to data dictionary descriptions, including type, structure, and intended use of data within system.
Assists in writing security policies to ensure data security and integrity.
Recommends physical network design such as location, space requirements, and access method, to protect company data resources against unauthorized access and accidental destruction.
Reviews description of changes (logical as well as physical) to the network infrastructure to understand how changes to be made may impact the proper operation of the network components.
Recommends network changes.
Performs updates to network components to ensure optimal performance and security of the network.
Applies Windows system updates to maintain proper operation and security of workstations and servers.
Develops, tests and implements network security modifications.
Tests and corrects errors, and helps refine changes to network components.
Deploys proprietary software on network devices.
Troubleshoot/resolve product issues.
Issue and revoke network security certificates.
Answer user questions.
Enter product defects and provide necessary information to development to aid in problem resolution.
Support network storage devices.
Configures network hardware and software.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
This position requires the knowledge and skills normally acquired through the successful completion of a BS degree in Computer Science.
At least 5 years of previous experience working with network components as well as the Windows O/S family of products.
Previous experience dealing with high traffic environments, architecting, building, installing and configuring network installations.
Web applications experience strongly desired.
Microsoft certification desired.
Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills desired.
Strong technical documentation skills.
Ability to learn new systems quickly.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
Must be able to communicate effectively using verbal or written means.
Must be able to demonstrate exceptional reasoning skills in day-to-day troubleshooting operations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Technical certifications are a plus.
The position may require the employee to spend extended periods of time in climate-controlled environments (data centers, server rooms, etc.).
Some lifting of 50 lbs. may be required in the mounting and dismounting of equipment. Cabling/wiring operations may create some physically challenging work operations.
The position will require the employee to spend extended periods of time entering and monitoring data on Personal Computers.
