GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Provide Information Assurance and CND subject matter expertise to a Federal Civilian agency in Manassas, Virginia. A 40 hour work week based on a Monday-Friday during normal business hours schedule is typical, but some on-call support is required on an as needed basis.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Gather requirements: provide research, evaluation, testing, and deployment of new tools and security technology, products, and integrated systems for safeguarding, monitoring, assessing, and investigating the security of information assets.
Ensure that the organization can continually adapt to the changing internal and external threat environments and continue to provide efficient and effective information security services.
Make recommendations that can enhance or replace existing ineffective or inefficient systems and/or processes.
Produce regular written reporting in conjunction with functional product research and evaluation pertaining to the latest technological advances in network, host, and applications security, with emphasis on solutions for safeguarding, detecting and assessing the security of information assets.
Implement and maintain a test and evaluation computing environment for IT Security technologies.
Provide support for detecting and preventing unauthorized attempts to gain access to restricted information. This includes unauthorized access.
Providing input for an asset management plan including technology acquisition costs, schedule, and operation and maintenance activities and budget of the newly integrated technologies.
Developing and maintaining engineering diagrams and documentation regarding the network and security infrastructure.
Experience and Skills:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
A minimum of five (5) years of related experience in the field of IT security engineering, operations, and maintenance supporting the specific IT security systems and technologies.
Demonstrated experience in the management of SOC IT infrastructures.
Experience with ArcSight SIEM and Symantec Endpoint Protection.
Researching, evaluating, testing and deploying new and customizable commercial tools and technologies such as firewalls, network- and host-based intrusion detection and prevention systems (HIDS-HIPS/NIDS-NIPS, VoIP, and log management systems to replace existing systems based on current or emerging threats and make recommendations for system integration and replacement.
Writing proposals, providing recommendations and delivering presentations to executives.
Managing network security devices, their configurations and system settings to detect and prevent unauthorized attempts to gain access to restricted information.
Knowledge of and practical experience with the following standards and guidelines:
ISO 20000-1, ISO 20000-2, NIST 800-31, NIST 800-36, NIST 800-41, NIST 800-42
U.S. Citizen required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors of Science in Information Technology or related field. Information security related disciplines are preferred.
At least one of the following certifications:
(ISC)2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
(ISC)2 Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP).
GIAC Certified Professional, Information Security Professional (GISP)
GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA)
Symantec Certified Technical Specialist (SCTS)
ArcSight Certified Advanced Integrator/Administrator (ACAIA)
