Job Description
At Silver Spring Networks, quality and test engineering are the foundation of our smart Grid initiative. Our test and quality engineers insure that our products effectively manage, transmit, upgrade, and communicate with end-users, smart meters and devices all via our wireless mesh network. Our applications and hardware manage millions of devices for some of the biggest utilities in the world. Our processors gather the data needed to generate bills, control the equipment used for distributing gigawatts of power, enable in-home devices to manage demand and reduce blackouts and grid failures, and control and monitor electric vehicle charging remotely.
We seek passionate energetic engineers to be responsible for system, network level verification tests on our networking products. We encourage all levels of engineers to apply. Our engineers have the opportunity to work in different areas and learn different technologies, as internal transfer is welcomed. We welcome hands-on experience with networking equipment, an understanding of networking protocols, experience in testing, a background in IP network design, operations, or management, and a penchant for delivering top quality products. You will be:
Testing firmware and involved in the test planning, and executing tests of firmware for embedded processors.
Working with engineering (software, hardware) and operations team members to create test processes, test specifications, test cases for sanity, integration, regression, alpha, beta and production testing.
Reporting and tracking bugs, debugging problems.
Executing performance and stress tests. Experience in writing/debugging C, and scripting experience (e.g., Perl, Python, Ruby, Bash, etc).
Experience with setting up and extending automated test suites, bug tracking, and system level testing for product release to customer.
An understanding of testing, software release engineering, build management including source control,
Knowledge of network protocols and testing L2 and L3
Experience with different wireless technologies and standards including WAN (CDMA, 1xRTT), WiFi (802.11) networks, SNMP, and wireless routing protocols 802.11 is a plus.
Experience working with packet sniffers, and protocol analyzers is a plus..
Interest or experience in software, systems and integration testing of hardware and software for a wireless networking in setting up test topologies to verify network functionalities
Experience in working with Network Management Systems (NMS), security protocols including SSL and IPSEC a plus
Experience working in a fast-paced, team-oriented.
Ability to self-start and work with minimum direction is critical
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience.
