The position is an Automation Engineer role and is based in our global corporate headquarters in Portsmouth, NH, USA. The OnDemand Engineering team designs and develops solutions for operating Newmarket?s Cloud Services portfolio. The Automation Engineer role is a critical member of the team ensuring that professional, efficient, repeatable, and effective solutions are developed. The initial focus of the position will be on developing system administration automation primarily using PowerShell, but will shift to server and application deployment using tools such as System Center Configuration Manager and Windows Deployment Services across a platform encompassing over 1,000 servers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Works with the engineering team and other groups to identify opportunities for automation.
Clearly documents requirements and verifies with stakeholders.
Creates effective, professional automation routines and verifies expected results in a test environment.
Documents expected changes and obtain approval before deployment to production as part of the organization's change control process, which ensures consistency of delivery and operational acceptance.
Works with the operations team to implement routines and serves as an escalation point in the event of unexpected results or failure.
Implements and leverages versioning control with tools such as TFS.
Focuses on innovation, keeping abreast of trends, current technologies, and opportunities for improvement.
Education and Experience
Data center operations experience including change management, release management, and/or configuration management experience; or equivalent education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Experience working with VMware and Windows Server technology including SQL Server, Internet Information Server (IIS), Systems Center Operations Manager, Systems Center Configuration Manager, vCenter, and vCloud Director.
Education: BS in Computer Science or MIS preferred
Certification: MCITP preferred
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to develop and follow established processes and procedures.
Ability to present ideas and solutions in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
Keen attention to detail.
Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
Must be willing to work off-hours on occasion (some nights and weekends).
