Pearson?s Smarthinking service includes real-time, online mentoring and learning support to colleges, universities, high schools and individuals.
We are always reexamining the way people learn best, whether it?s one child in our own backyard or an education community across the globe. At Pearson and within Smarthinking, we work to facilitate a culture of professional reflection and consistent quality among our teams of tutors.
Candidates can work from any location with computer, and high-speed Internet access. Mentors will work 19 to 30 hours a week. To qualify, individuals must have a Bachelor?s Degree (preferred areas of study are: education/teaching, sociology, psychology, social work, English); at least three years of customer service experience or of providing online instructional services; evident passion for student success; strong verbal and telephone communication skills; strong written communication skills;
ability to motivate a person when he/she is not demonstrating the necessary progress for success; knowledge of alternative teaching methods and how to use them effectively to ensure knowledge
acquisition by a diverse population; proficiency in Google docs and general Internet usage.
A Program Mentor?s primary responsibility is to support students in the successful completion of college prep courses for writing, reading, and mathematics. Primary mentor responsibilities include: daily assessment of students? levels of engagement and progress with coursework and creation of a custom weekly game plans; phone, email, and social media outreach and engagement with students to review progress; provision of live mentoring support; documentation of meetings with students; communication with Smarthinking staff and tutors as well as personnel from client institutions to share appropriate information regarding the student?s progress; holding students accountable for follow
through on agreed upon action plans; participating in feedback from Program Mentor Leads. Given the verbal communication responsibilities, the space in which the mentor works must be quiet, with little or no ambient noise.
- This is a remote position that will require the job incumbent to work out of her/his home office.
- If hired, tutors must be able to provide documentation regarding eligibility to work in the United States (I9 form verified by US notary) and have access to his/her own computer and internet access.
