TripIt is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to fill the role of Operations Engineer supporting the TripIt business unit (www.tripit.com). This is a senior level position in a fast-paced, high-profile startup environment. This position calls for a professional yet energetic team player who can also work independently. You must have passion for delighting customers and solving their problems, the communication skills to clearly and concisely respond to inquiries, and a passion for technology with an enthusiasm for product advancement. This is a small and highly leveraged team where self-motivation and efficiency are key.
The Operations Engineer is responsible for day-to-day stability and performance of one of the largest, fastest growing sites in the world.
Responsible for maintaining and improving service uptime and cost of ownership.
The successful candidate will be technical, analytical, and have experience mentoring technical teams.
Must possess the ability to quickly learn current systems, tools and data to measure performance.
Experience with capacity planning including vision, scope, and design of future systems.
Demonstrated communication and coordination skills with internal service providers to ensure infrastructure meets the requirements of the site.
Manage outside vendors to identify and resolve issues with their products.
A minimum of 5+ years experience working in an operations organization in a 24x7 global infrastructure as well as a record of individual technical achievement.
BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred
Experience with operating systems such as Linux; config tools such as Puppet; virtualization environments such as OpenVZ; web servers such as NGINX; data stores such as MySQL, MongoDB, Memcache, Couchbase; queuing solutions such as RabbitMQ; languages such as PHP, Python; protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, etc...
Excellent project management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
Capable of technical deep-dives into code, networking, systems and storage
Capable of leading a discussion with executive management
Demonstrated experience in network and large scale systems troubleshooting and maintenance practices
