Optical Engineer Manager
JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for an Optical Engineer with proven experience in optical systems and optical luminaire development with LEDs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Designs, develops, builds and tests systems and products based on optical control of LEDs.
• Interacts with device, hardware and software design teams to assist in overall development of optical systems.
• Designs, specifies, selects and qualifies optical components.
• Develops and benchmarks system performance models.
• Develops and implements test procedures and/or evaluates and selects appropriate test instrumentation.
• Provides multi-discipline support by resolving technical issues associated with components, parts, products or systems.
• Tests new and existing designs and documentation of changes through a formal engineering change notification process.
• May provide recommendations for cost reduction efforts.
• May apply quantitative analysis in determining root cause of highly technical problems and propose, develop and implement solutions for corrective action.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• MS or PhD in Applied Physics, or equivalent.
• Ten years of related experience developing advanced optical systems, preferably with a luminaire manufacturer that produces LED-based products.
• Broad knowledge of LED devices, modules and light engines.
• Familiarity with other disciplines and devices associated with solid-state lighting technology, such as electronics drivers, lighting controls, thermal management techniques, thermal modeling, etc.
• Experience with LED standards and testing including IESNA standards, LM-79, LM-80, TM-21 and ANSI C.78.377.
• Direct experience in optics modeling, LED implementation, and general luminaire design are required with an understanding of Reality, DiaLux, Photometric Pro and AGi32 and the ability to work in LightTools.
• Strong understanding of principals of Optics such as reflective, refractive, non-imaging with an emphasis on non-imaging optics using advanced light sources, LEDs.
• Understanding of optical control of extended (large, non-point) sources.
• Understanding of LED Lighting systems including Thermal Management, Optical Control, Electrical parameters of LEDs and LED drivers.
• Understanding of Roadway Lighting.
• Thorough understanding of IES Files, ability to analyze and use data in simulations.
• Strong communication skills verbal & written.
