The Systems Administration team at BigMachines is in search of a senior level Oracle database administrator. The BigMachines Engineering team provides 24x7 database and systems administration services for the BigMachines SaaS product, hosted in our data centers and deployed on Oracle 10g / 11g databases.
The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for oversight of multiple stand-alone and shared database environments. The candidate must have excellent problem management, performance tuning experience and in-depth understanding of Oracle 10g, 11g concepts and best-practice administration standards. The candidate should have project upgrade and transition experience and be able to effectively communicate complex technical topics in summary form to various levels of management and client. The candidate will also participate in critical technical troubleshooting efforts and provide strategic technical advisement as warranted.

The Oracle Database Administrator Expert will support multiple production Oracle databases in a 24X7 high-availability environment.
Experienced administration of and accountability of multiple stand-alone and shared databases in a web application environment; including routine administrative activities such as cloning, backup/restore, and patching
Incident Management including root cause analysis and resolution of high impact/high visibility issues
Design and execution on significant customer projects
Mentoring and guidance within overall Engineering and System Administration teams
Participate in internal process and automation improvement opportunities
Opening & following up on service support tickets with Oracle support
Adhering to all BigMachines security policies, standards and procedures in the performance of job duties
Participating in security training provided by BigMachines
Reporting any potential security weakness, exposure or suspicious indications to manager
3 - 5 years of Oracle 10g / 11g administration experience outside of college coursework
Proficiency building new Oracle databases in 10g / 11g
Understanding of Oracle design, architecture, security & performance tuning
Experience in installation, configuration, upgrade / patching of Oracle to latest version
Experience with Diagnostics and Tuning pack and Advanced Security
Instance cloning (RAC, Non-RAC), Code migration processes
RMAN Backup with expertise in backup and recovery, fail-over methods, and best practices
Experience using Data Pump, Data Guard and / or Real Application Cluster RAC is a big plus
Proficient in automation (shell scripting) and documentation
Experience in database security best practices and optionsExperience in configuring/managing environments with failover/high availability requirements is a plus. Particularly with Standby Databases and Data Guard configuration
BS in Computer Science or equivalent
Self-managed. Must be comfortable performing as an individual contributor and deliver results without depending on constant management oversight.

Excellent documentation skills. Must see the value in clear and concise documentation; continuously seeking to capture key configuration, reference, procedure, and solution information on paper.
