Penguin?s Adult Hardcover division is seeking an Associate Financial Analyst to work closely with the Director of Business Management on supporting the management of day-to-day business operations. This position will assist with the timely and accurate compilation and distribution of the annual budget, quarterly re-forecasts, and monthly actual reporting for imprints within the division and will be responsible for daily sales reporting.
Other specific responsibilities include:
Assisting Director in month-end and year-end processes for all Hardcover imprints, focusing on plant expenses.
Identifying titles for which plant expenses should be accrued/deferred and working with Penguin?s third party service provider to ensure plant accruals are appropriate.
Preparing monthly analysis comparing plant actuals to budget and quarterly re-forecasts.
Resolving issues with the electronic payables and T&E systems.
Fielding SAP related questions, issues, trackers, or maintenance issues as needed.
Supporting Director in the forecasting and planning for all imprints in the division, including the setup and updating of imprint budget/forecast files.
Uploading and verifying all p&l data in sales blocks and reviewing imprint/divisional p&ls once final data is uploaded.
Creating bridge schedules comparing budgets/forecasts (including unknowns reporting and key title analysis).
Assisting with the review of post publication profit & loss statements.
Providing ad hoc data and analysis for the Director, senior management, corporate finance, or publishers.

4 year college degree in business, preferably in Finance or Accounting
Prior financial or accounting experience
Working knowledge of accounting principles
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Superb attention to detail
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (including vlookups and pivot tables)
Proficiency with Microsoft Access & SAP strongly preferred
Working knowledge of Hyperion, Business Objects, and SQL strongly preferred
Prior work experiences within book publishing or media is a plus
