About the role:
Performance engineering at WhaleShark Media offers the opportunity to directly affect the bottom line of this fast growing startup by making the performance of our web properties your top priority. In this role, you will drive a better experience for our end users utilizing web performance optimization (WPO) tools and techniques. You will also ensure that our systems can scale to handle current and peak traffic conditions via performance and capacity testing. You will automate these activities by building out continuous integration infrastructure and dashboards so that performance issues can be identified earlier in the development cycle.
Typical candidates will have experience with Internet and Web technologies, SQL and databases and various automation tools. They will be comfortable with Agile development processes and fast-paced environments
Responsibilities & Project Work:
--Develop and run performance and capacity tests for each release.
--Automate performance testing solutions.
--Build management and monitoring infrastructure for performance data and statistics.
--Dig into performance problems to identify and isolate causes.
--Prototype performance optimizations in both code and configuration.
Minimum Qualifications:
--Bachelor's degree in computer science or other technical discipline.
--3-10+ years in a professional software development organization.
--Experience in measuring and evaluating the performance of web-based systems.
--Experience with practical application of statistics to the analysis of performance data.
--Familiarity with BrowserMob, WebPageTest, XHProf, JMeter, LoadRunner, VisualVM, HeapAnalyzer or similar tools.
--Familiarity with Amazon Web Services including S3, EC2, RDS, and CloudWatch
--Programming skills in PHP, Java, C# or C++ preferred. Other experience will be considered.
--Intermediate or better knowledge of SQL and database technologies.
--Experience with automation, continuous integration, unit test, change management, and configuration management.
--Experience in a consumer Internet environment strongly preferred.
--Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
