Position Purpose: Research position in microbiology specializing in discovery and optimization of new products from anaerobic fermentations. Researcher will play a vital role in development of next generation products for company based on our core technology platform of gas fermentations and mixed culture microbiology.
Design and operation of fermentation experiments with goal towards new products and processes based on mono- and mixed culture microbiology.
Development and application of new novel methods of microbial characterization and detection using modern molecular biology techniques as well as advanced biochemical analyses of microorganisms and their metabolites.
Pathway optimization of microorganisms through adaptive selection, random mutagenesis, nutrient optimization and mixed culture pairing.
Identification of novel anaerobic pathways and physiologies that can be coupled to syngas metabolism.
Monitor competitive patent landscape and generate relevant and applicable Intellectual Property.
This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding of company policy, procedures, and values.
Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments.
This position operates in an office environment, as well as laboratory environment. In the laboratory environment, the team member may be exposed to chemical hazards including syngas, moving mechanical parts and common laboratory hazards such as sharps and pressurized fermentation vessels.
Knowledge and experience with co- and multi- culture fermentations and characterization.
Proven proficiency in all anaerobic techniques as well as strong background in anaerobic microbial physiology and/or microbial ecology.
Strong background in microbial energetics and pathway analyses.
Expertise with advanced analytical methodologies in molecular biology, i.e. qPCR, RT-PCR, FISH, Micro-Arrays, and bioinformatics and their in study of microbial physiology and monitoring of fermentation processes.
Experience with fermentation product analysis using liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, GC- mass spectroscopy, protein gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry and anaerobic biochemical assays.
Candidate will hold a PhD in Microbiology, Microbial Ecology or Biochemical Engineering or Masters with 4 years relevant experience. Prior work experience in this area desired.
