Position: Senior (Sr) Technical Writer Vocera Communications

Scope of Position
Create product documentation and training material for the Vocera Communications System, a mission-critical enterprise application that interfaces with the wired and wireless network infrastructure and the corporate PBX. This position is within the Vocera Engineering department, and will work closely with development, QA, and other technical resources.
Responsibilities

• Create, develop, and maintain the core product documentation: a library of books, help systems, quick reference guides, and instruction sheets.
• Create, develop, and maintain technical training material for customers and internal personnel. Knowledge of distance training as well as classroom training is a plus.
• Help Technical Publications develop expertise in alternative forms of content presentation such as e-books, online content formatted for cell phones and other portable devices, screencasts, and so forth.
• Help recommend and implement a content-management system to help track highly re-used XML content and training interdependencies.
• Help coordinate content deliveries to vendors for localization into multiple languages.
• Develop the expertise required to contribute to the maintenance of the XSL style sheets used to produce the Vocera doc set, implemented in the DocBook DTD.
• Manage and maintain technical documentation on the Vocera corporate web site.
• Support additional internal training and technical marketing efforts as necessary.
• Handle any other technical communication needs that may arise.

Education, Skills, and Experience

• BA / BS in Technical Writing, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Ten or more years of experience in providing multiple concurrent deliveries to varied audiences, ranging from technical professionals to end users.
• Experience documenting enterprise applications that reside in highly-networked environments, ideally products with 802.11, VOIP, or telephony interfaces.
• Experience with DocBook or other XML authoring environments; especially experience managing XSL style sheets for PDF, HTML, and Eclipse help output is a plus.
• The ability to develop documentation plans for a library of printed and online publications, with the capability of analyzing documentation at the developmental level.
• Experience single-sourcing documentation for multiple documents and audiences.
• Excellence in written communication, with a portfolio of previous publications demonstrating the ability to write about technology clearly and accurately.
• The ability to edit and create graphics in Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio, or similar applications.
