Nanosys designs and manufactures architected materials for use in lithium ion batteries to deliver ultra-high battery capacity in consumer electronics devices. We are looking for an experienced Powder Processing Engineer to work on our breakthrough silicon / carbon composite nanomaterials. This individual will be responsible for improving the current processes and process equipment and for designing the next generation tools.
The engineer must be familiar with LPCVD deposition equipment and wet processing equipment; more importantly familiar with general powder processing equipment and processes.
Major Responsibilities:
Improve and implement the next generation tool set for the synthesis and processing of silicon ? carbon composite battery materials.
Improve powder processing capabilities.
Define and develop best practices for high volume manufacturing powder processing and scale-up.
Thoroughly understand current production capabilities and limitations.
Expert resource to manufacturing for the blended powder products.
Identify, procure, install and be engineering owner of production tool set.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough understanding of powder blending and mixing theory and practice.
Complete knowledge of analytical techniques relevant to powder blends, including physical separation and online/batch instrumental methods.
Working knowledge of general chemical processing.
Skilled in working independently in a fast-paced environment.
Good problem solving and data analysis skills.
Safety conscious, committed to adhering to EH&S rules and regulations.
Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
Physical requirements necessary to perform this job:
Visual acuity sufficient to work with small parts.
Ability to hear abnormal sounds from process equipment, safety alarms and process alarms.
Physical ability to perform equipment maintenance, including occasionally working in awkward positions.
Ability to lift 50lbs.
Ability to manipulate heavy items such as gas cylinders.
Education, Experience and Certifications:
B.S in Chemical Engineering, advanced degree preferred.
At least 5 years of relevant industrial experience in reactive powder processing, powders handling, blending.
