Valen Technologies is a rapidly expanding predictive analytics company headquartered in downtown Denver. Valen?s suite of predictive-analytic products deliver high profitability
gains for P&C insurance carriers. Valen?s unique offering of calibrated industry models
means fast time-to-market delivery of powerful, carrier-tailored products and solutions.
You are a Predictive Modeling Expert and will report directly to the SVP of Predictive
Analytics. You will be an integral part of Valen?s product development and delivery teams,
working closely and collaboratively with Valen insurance domain experts, data analysts,
engineers, and customers. Part of your job will be to develop highly robust, predictive
models?the very foundation of Valen?s industry-model products. Additionally, you will
partner with the sales and marketing teams to perform and deliver modeling proof-ofconcepts and retro-tests, as well as to help shape and deliver compelling product
performance reads, product and concept education, and value proposition messaging to
sales prospects and to the marketplace.
As a modeler, you are:
? Analytically innovative, talented at consultatively working backwards from market needs
to design modeling approaches that solve compelling business problems
? Experienced collaborating with data teams to creatively identify, acquire, cleanse, and
structure data sets useful for model development; well-equipped to expertly extract and
process data sets from relational databases using SQL and SAS scripts
? Experienced designing modeling samples in light of common sample challenges, such as
treatment and selection bias, and skilled at building robust predictive models that hold
up well on similar and extrapolated populations when implemented into production
? Adept at translating model predictions into model usage strategies and decision rules
that business customers value and understand
? Experienced monitoring and assessing production model performance results; well
equipped to translate model performance into business value reads and present value
findings to internal and external customers
? Appreciative of a good balance between R&D-based innovation, practical insights and
improvements, and product automation and fast delivery time
? Open minded to new modeling techniques, research ideas, and able to translate
statistical theory and publications into practical modeling solutions; continually seeking
to learn from others and to share your own discoveries and insights for the benefit of
others

Your education and experience qualifications include:
? An advanced degree in statistics or econometrics (with heavy emphasis on stochastic
model development and usage)
? 3+ years developing and implementing models in businesses that rely solidly on
predictive models within decision work-flow settings; preferred model usages are those
used to identify what ?treatment? to give to what person or object within a given
situation, over a large number of decision occurrences
