The Principal Big Data Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing Big Data solutions, including requirements analysis, platform selection, technical architecture design, and development.
Steelwedge is looking for a candidate with a broad set of technology skills who is able to design and build robust Big Data solutions for big data problems and learn quickly as the platform grows.

Ideal candidates will possess a keen interest in learning and creating new technology, be able to take initiative, own the project, have excellent communication skills, and able to explain complex concepts in layman's terms.
The Principal Big Data Engineer will be a part of a team that interacts with India and will be expected to participate in calls that will be scheduled either early morning or late night on an as-needed basis. (At times, this can be several times per week.)
Travel up to 10% of time to include travel to India.
Design Big Data solutions to resolve performance issues with large databases.
Work closely with development team to guide development of such solutions.
Apply deep SQL knowledge to existing platform to resolve shorter-term performance issues.
Gain KT on the Steelwedge platform and suggest alternatives to existing architecture.
BS in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or equivalent, MS or PhD preferred.
Architect or senior-level development experience.
Minimum of two years' hands-on experience with the Big Data stack (e.g., MapReduce, Hadoop, Sqoop, Pig, Hive, Hbase, Flume).
Stron understanding of Hadoop platform, HDFS, Hbase, Hive, etc. Proficient in modeling problems in Hadoop platform. Understanding of Cloudera and BDAS platforms a plus.
Candidate should have understanding of relative merits of traditional RDBMS versus big-data platforms and where each paradigm fits best.
Knowledge of NoSQL platforms (e.g., key-value stores, graph databases, RDF triple stores).
Hands-on experience with "productionizing" Big Data applications (e.g., administration, configuration management, monitoring, debugging, and performance tuning).
Strong background in RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata).
Strong communication and organization skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with various roles: executives, solution architects, business analysts, software engineers, DBAs, etc.
Ability to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task effectively.
Knowledge of cloud computer infrastructure (e.g., Amazon Web Services EC2, Elastic MapReduce) and considerations for scalable, distributed systems preferred.
Working knowledge of J2EE preferred.
