Principal Hardware Engineer ClariPhy Communications
Reporting to: Director, Systems Engineering
Location: Los Altos, CA
Job Description
ClariPhy seeks a full-time experienced Principal Hardware Engineer for ClariPhy?s 100G coherent optical
communications solutions. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in high speed digital and analog circuit design
to develop PCB based evaluation platforms for testing ClariPhy System on Chip (SOC) products in environments
similar to those found in customer lab and field environments. You will also drive the design and development of
customer reference designs, and support customers in the design, debug and troubleshooting phases of their
ClariPhy based SOC products. You will be responsible for designing RF circuitry at speeds above 20 GHz, selecting all
necessary filters, amplifiers, switches, PLLs, VCOs, ADCs and DACs. You will also incorporate logic devices such as
FPGAs and CPLDs into the design. Knowledge of logic device coding (e.g. Verilog) is desirable as you will contribute
to coding and will work with FPGA engineers to implement the required logic and control mechanisms across multiboard evaluation platforms. In addition to the design work, you will work extensively in the lab with state-of-the art
high speed communications test equipment for bring-up, test, and debug, leveraging your experience in
communications system performance characterization. Working with a world class engineering team encompassing
skills in optical communications, digital communications, and high speed digital and analog integrated circuit design,
and with ClariPhy?s customers, your platforms and reference designs will contribute to the successful validation and
deployment of ClariPhy SOCs in the customer environment. By combining a passion for high speed design and test,
and an enthusiasm for collaborating with ClariPhy?s chip designers and customers, you will facilitate ClariPhy?s
success in bringing to market robust and reliable coherent optical communications products.
Required Skills & Experience
? The successful candidate will have more than 10 years experience in design and testing of electronic hardware,
including high speed digital circuits, FPGAs, and RF and analog circuitry.
? The ideal candidate must have the following:
? Extensive experience creating total evaluation platforms, including hardware, firmware, and software and
strong expertise in the manufacturing of high performance PCBs, including managing the technical aspects
of sub-contractors from design, through layout, to fab and assembly.
? Excellent skills with lab equipment including RF spectrum analyzers, high speed oscilloscopes, signal
generators, network analyzers, BERTs, frequency counters, and power meters.
? Possess a strong interest and ability in developing customer reference designs for ultra-high speed
communications products and in supporting customer development projects.
? Experience with FPGA designs and integration into high speed board development projects. Coding
including Verilog is highly desirable.
? Experience with high frequency simulation tools such as HFSS, Sonnet, Libra and Touchstone and design and
schematic capture tools is desirable.
? Must demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills and an ability to work cross-functionally with
design, applications, and customer teams.
