Principal Linux Engineer Greenplum

General Summary
EMC's Data Computing Division is looking for an engineer to take a technical leadership role as a Linux Engineer in Greenplum's Appliance engineering group. In this role, you will work with members of the software, hardware, and performance teams to develop next generation solutions. This is an R&D role, where you will be expected to contribute to existing and future products.
Duties and Responsibilities

• Technically oriented, product engineering role in the Greenplum Appliance Engineering team
• Collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams on product design and definition
• Responsible for O/S specification, configuration, and troubleshooting within the Data Computing Appliance product line
• Assist with design and implementation of Linux tools and software
• Serve as the center of excellence on Linux platform related topics
• Exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and meeting program deliverables
• Evaluate and test emerging Linux technologies
• Prototype novel ideas and transform into enterprise solutions

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
• Mastery of Unix concepts
• Proficiency in the following:
  
  • Linux network stack, topologies, configuration, and tools
  • One or more scripting/programming languages such as Python, Perl, or C
  • One or more areas of the Linux kernel (VFS, VMM, Network, Block I/O, etc…)
• You should have working knowledge in the majority of the following areas:
  
  • Storage layer and related technologies such as RAID, LVM, and SMART
  • O/S security and hardening concepts
  • Performance monitoring, tuning, and related tools such as SystemTap and oprofile
  • Systems monitoring and management (snmp, syslog, kdump, etc…)
  • Kernel patching and building
• Knowledge of hardware architectures
• Systems programming experience is a plus
• Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Easy-going personality and the ability to multi-task with a diverse set of technology and people
