supporting data, voice and video applications.
Job Description
Azimuth Systems, has an immediate opening for a Principal RF Engineer. Working as a key member of
the Hardware Engineering team, you will be involved in all aspects of the RF product development
including; architecture, simulation, design, layout, design verification and introduction into
manufacturing. The Principal RF engineer in this position will work closely with hardware engineers,
system engineers, DSP engineers, embedded software engineers, and test engineering. This is an
excellent position for an engineer who enjoys working on all aspects of product delivery, being
connected to the end customer, and delivering solutions at the highest performance level.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:
? Lead the design and develop of high performance, multichannel, commercial RF hardware
operating up to 6GHz; including active RF circuits containing mixers, switches, RF amplifiers,
transmitters, detectors, phase control, filters, combiners, attenuators, and other essential
building blocks.
? Perform all phases of RF hardware development including; System architecture, design,
component selection, schematic capture, PCB design, BOM creation, test and debug.
? Perform module and system simulations and analysis including Spurious Analysis, Noise figure
analysis, Phase Noise Performance Prediction, and Filter Performance.
? Design for manufacture of commercial RF modules.
? Perform RF measurements and characterization of components and circuits.
? Create detailed RF test plans both at the module and system level.
? Development of alignment, calibration and automated test algorithms using TCL.
? Demonstrated ability to work well within a cross-functional team and mentor others.
? Mentor other RF and Hardware Engineers, become the team focal point of RF expertise.

Qualifications
? MSEE preferred / BSEE or Physics Required.
? Proven track record of at least 10 years, architecting, designing, building, and testing
system and board level hardware including RF transceivers, matching networks, RF
front ends, digital down/up conversion and complete RF systems operating up to 6GHz.
? Knowledge of terrestrial radio communication, including, MIMO, FDD, TDD, and
continuous and burst-mode communication technologies.
? Knowledge of open-air RF signal propagation including understanding simple line-ofsight link budgets and knowledge of antenna types (gains, beam-widths, etc.)
? Sound understanding of networking principles and wireless technologies; especially
Digital Communication Systems (RF, modulation, digital signal processing, etc.).
? Wireless communication experience, including LTE, 3GPP, or OFDM a plus.
? Experience in RF transceiver design including direct conversion/multi-stage conversion,
filtering techniques (shape performance, return loss, matching, technologies) and high
instantaneous dynamic range (RF chain cascade modeling, optimization)
? Knowledge of frequency synthesis solutions including Phase Locked Loop technology,
low phase noise and low noise design, and understanding of trade-offs between
frequency tuning step resolution and spurious product levels & offsets
? Extensive knowledge of RF circuit shielding techniques including, physical layer
placement, routing, frequency block management, zoning for shielding, etc.
? Experience with RF and analog circuit design & simulation including pre-layout
simulation, cascaded circuit transmission line interactions and reflections & management,
broadband design and matching.
? Experience with post-layout RF electrical performance measurement, comparison
against simulation, and using simulation data as an optimization tool.
? Comprehend overall RF and data conversion, system architecture documentation, define
functional specifications, system test methodology, and create detailed module and
system test plans.
? The candidate should have proven experience developing and releasing product to
manufacturing with a solid understanding of manufacturing methods, emissions and
regulatory testing, and all steps necessary for a successful launch to manufacture.
? Experience with test equipment such as Signal Analyzers, Signal Generators, Spectrum
Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Base Station Emulators and other equipment associated
with the design and development of Cellular Radio Access Network products.
? Hands-on experience with automated RF Testing and programming methods.
? Experience with DxDesigner and Orcad Schematic Capture and PADS or Allegro PCB.
? Experience working with internal engineering teams and customers and marketing to
help extract and refine product requirements.
? Exceptional organizational skills: planning, follow-through, ability to manage details.
? Experience working in a startup environment a plus.
