Principal Software Engineer, NetMRI

This is a Principal Software Engineering role responsible for detailed planning, system engineering, architecture development, design, coding and testing and support of the “back-end†of the company's network discovery and automation products. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating and maintaining the core technologies that are at the heart of our business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in architecture creation to address long-term design objectives.
- Provide technical leadership for product features, taking them from conception to delivery.
- Provide technical leadership for designated build infrastructure pieces (e.g. Perforce, Buildbot, OBS)
- Generate software designs and scope effort for new product features.
- Mentor, guide and provide design and code reviews for other engineers.
- Create software written primarily in Perl and Ruby, with other languages on occasion.
- Work with QA to help define effective test strategies and techniques.
- Work with Sustaining Engineering and Customer Technical Support to diagnose and resolve challenging field issues.
- 15+ years' experience in software development with demonstrated experience in leading design efforts.
- Knowledge of Linux (or UNIX) OS, Perl, and SQL are required, and knowledge of Ruby is a very strong plus.
- Knowledge of networking is important; experience with network management and SNMP.
- Proven track record of shipping quality software products on time.
- Results oriented, solid work ethic with excellent attention to detail and quality.
- Strong problem analysis and diagnostic capabilities.
- Ability to lead small teams or work independently as needed
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in working with offshore teams is a strong plus.
- Four year degree in CE, CS, EE, or other technical field such as math, physics or engineering is required.
- Graduate Degree in CE, CS, EE preferred.
