Principal SQA Engineer / Team Leader VFA

POSITION SUMMARY:This Principal Software Quality Assurance Engineer will have opportunities both as a significant individual test contributor, and as a very hands-on leader of 1 to 2 person testing teams, for assigned projects within VFA?s line of hosted software product solutions, deployed within a Software-as-a-Service model.
The Principal SQA Engineer is expected to collaborate within a cross-discipline project team setting of software developers, product managers, and manual and automation-focused SQA engineers to create and execute quality testing schedules and plans. This hire will also routinely interface with our other SQA projects teams and test automation staff to strengthen and supplement our internal testing infrastructure, via improvements to processes, procedures and technology.
This role has the potential to grow into one with first line QA responsibility for multiple concurrent projects, as well as supervisory responsibility for those projects? assigned QA staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employs a sound risk management approach to determine an optimum, well structured and comprehensive test strategy for assigned projects.
Delivers and tracks progress to testing schedules, within aggressive ?time-to-market? driven project environments, sometimes across parallel projects.
Regularly summarizes testing status and areas of risk, and when possible proposes and executes upon mitigation strategies.
Interfaces with automation engineers to identify and prioritize areas for significant efficiency and confidence gains through test automation. Pitches in on automated test development efforts where possible.
Analyzes, tracks, and reports on application issues and maintains documentation on project issues and defect metrics.
Collaborates within SQA team and across product development on process improvement initiatives.
Details and executes test cases; tracks test results.
QUALIFICATIONS:
7+ years of overall software quality assurance and/or product development experience, with exposure to the full product development cycle ? from requirements through post-release. Experience or exposure to Agile is a significant plus.
Significant experience testing multi-tiered, web-based products.
Solid test planning skills, with a strong appreciation for the need to provide well documented test strategies, procedures and results.
Well capable of delivering, managing and tracking project testing schedules, whether as the sole SQA resource on a project team, or leading 1 to 2 other assigned SQA engineers.
2+ years of experience utilizing functional and/or load testing tools. QuickTest Professional and/or Selenium experience are pluses.
2+ years of experience testing database applications. Comfortable building and performing database queries. Oracle experience is a plus.
Strong team player with a ?can do? attitude. Routinely demonstrates flexibility and is a very capable multi-tasker. Possesses solid organizational and time management skills.
Experience mentoring and training more junior engineers on both technical and SQA process topics.
Experience driving and participating in software development / testing process improvement initiatives.
Excellent troubleshooting ability.
EDUCATION:
BS in Computer Science or equivalent.
