Provide advanced technical support and assistance to enterprise level customers for the Precise product suite monitoring the Databases, Web, J2EE and .NET technologies and more. A Principal Technical Support Engineer is responsible for responding to any escalated support issues that can't be resolved by the first tier support engineers and work the issues to completion. Please note, this is not an IT helpdesk position.
The Principal Technical Support Engineer is considered the subject matter expert and is responsible for all technical support activities for that product. The engineer will have extensive knowledge of the underlying architecture and source code and can answer any questions regarding the operation of the product. Responsibilities include but are not limited to problem replication, root cause analysis and communicating with development engineers and junior engineers as well as others within the organization, such as Solutions Architects, Sales Representatives, Management, etc.
Troubleshooting, problem resolution and root cause analysis for product problems
Manage and participate in the product testing and beta program rollout of any new product releases
Document customer's issues, recommendations and resolution utilizing specific call tracking tools/methodology
Reviewing and analyzing error logs for problems validation
Write and edit technical articles outlining problems resolution and troubleshooting steps (Contribute knowledge to the knowledge base)
Provide ongoing training and mentoring to other team members pertaining to advanced technical subjects
Work with the engineering team to resolve complex customer issues
Travel for this position will be kept to no more than 1 week per quarter
Minimum 5 years of technical experience in a distributed computing environment
Knowledge of Web servers (such as IIS and Apache) and how web applications work
Familiarity with Java environment components, particularly J2EE components including Classpaths, JREs, Servlets/JSP, EJBs, JDBC drivers, etc.
Motivated, self?starter and also able to work well in a team
Excellent written and verbal English skills
Knowledge of Windows and Unix operating system environments
Understanding of server networking, including troubleshooting networking problems
Basic knowledge of Application Servers, specifically Weblogic or Websphere preferred
Understanding of databases such as Oracle, MySQL and SQL Server
Understanding of Sybase applications and databases
Background in software development
Basic knowledge of Microsoft .NET
Knowledge in ERP systems such as PeopleSoft, Siebel and SAP
Ability to coach, develop and deliver training with proven mentorship skills
Experience with Application Performance Management products
