Who are we looking for?
You are a rare find. You are deeply passionate about interaction design such that every product you use, software or non-software, provides you an opportunity to learn and critique. You have a strong background in scenario focused user interaction design. While you love good aesthetics, you are equally thoughtful about the functionality and have insights on how it was accomplished. You have a visceral sense of when to borrow and when to invent. You can clearly articulate your thoughts to your team through visual prototypes.
You love simplicity and you understand that simple designs are a true test of success. You are obsessed with usability to the core. You have strong, fervent opinions, yet you are willing to listen to your users and take this feedback to heart. You know what to ask your users and when, what behavior to observe, infer the right conclusions from these behaviors and substantiate or update your thinking through usage data. As diligent as you are with clean designs and user tests, you understand that perfect software never ships. You strongly believe the best payoff is a working design embraced by millions, not a perfect design radiant but lonely in your own head.
You have a ton of accomplishments to show in user interaction design in product management or program management roles in the past. You are looking for a large scope in your next role to prove your user interaction skills and you have a portfolio of accomplishments as proof that you are ready to take this on. You want to work in a place great where user interaction design is critical, respected and appreciated and where great design makes a difference in real people's lives.
While background in consumer user interaction and education field is preferred, we believe you can apply your skills from other areas to consumer design if your design fundamentals are solid. If you have read this far, you may have found your next role - please read on to assess culture fit.
Culture fit:
This is the perfect job for you if - You are a technologist yearning to make a difference in education. You love to learn and you have conviction and ideas around how learning could be made better. You are an optimist who is both innovative and persistent in solving difficult issues. You are a trail blazer who is not afraid to question assumptions and confront stereotypes. You are self-aware and self -critical in your pursuit of excellence. You have extraordinary customer empathy which drives all your product contributions.
This would not be the right job for you if - you are not comfortable with ambiguity that comes from tectonic shifts that education is undergoing in today's world. You are a pessimist who is easily swayed by the many reasons for why something can't be done. You do not understand that big challenges are marathons and your success will be measured in years, not weeks or months. Humility is not your virtue as both education and collaboration requires a good measure.
If you have read this far, there is potential for a great mutual fit and we would love to talk to you soon!
