Process Chemist - Applications Development (AD13-201) Amyris Biotechnologies
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Amyris is building an integrated renewable products company using breakthrough science and an innovative business model to address some of our planet?s most daunting problems. Amyris first developed its technology under a non-profit initiative to provide a reliable and affordable source of Artemisinin, a highly effective anti-malarial therapeutic and is now applying its industrial synthetic biology platform to provide alternatives to a broad range of petroleum-sourced products. Amyris No Compromise? renewable fuels and chemicals are being designed to perform comparably to, or better than, the products they will replace.
The Applications Development team is seeking a Process Chemist with extensive experience in scale up chemistry, using microbially-derived substrates to produce renewable chemical products. This position requires proven experience in chemical process development, as well as technology transfers to manufacturing. A successful candidate will be responsible for assessing chemical routes and processes for target compounds in terms of cost, unit operations, robustness and quality, as well as determining impurity impacts to process efficiencies. It will be necessary to interpret data through risk assessment, including safety risks, and determine if processes are fit for purpose (can meet projected volume requirements, product specifications, and will perform according to customer expectations). Strong communication skills are necessary to provide recommendations along with supporting data to cross-functional teams. Collaboration is key to successfully moving projects forward with safety as a priority for all Applications Development activities.
Personally responsibility for individual as well as co-worker safety and maintaining safety as the highest priority by supporting and reinforcing procedures and policies
Establish core competencies for process chemistry as well as training and mentorship
Design experimental plans to generate data for process feasibility, proof of concept and validation efficiently
Assessing chemical process control of selectivity, side-reactions, exotherms, off-gassing, radical oxidation and polymerization.
Hands on performance of laboratory, or piloting experiments, including equipment modifications when necessary
Scale up and scale down processes for evaluation and process improvements to meet cost targets
Provide strategic planning for deliverables within project timelines, incorporating immediate and long term project goals
Generate SOPs, process development reports and technology transfers
