Implementing, developing, and optimizing production methodologies in the manufacturing operations of Tesla Motors; optimizing product flow in the factory through process optimization that may include tool/fixture selection, line layouts, ergonomic study, material presentation, and other relevant factors; interfacing with design, process, test, and quality engineering to solve problems, improve manufacturability, and implement continual improvement; improving product profit margin through cost reduction and yield improvements activities; and working with QA to compile and evaluates data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications. Analyze, design, and optimize production processes to ensure safety while maximizing yield, capacity, and capability in cost effective means while driving to achieve world-class quality levels; Develop and modify line layouts, including material flow, waste reduction, and ergonomics, utilizing Lean Manufacturing best practices; Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to ensure product specifications and standards are achieved; Create and maintain Operational Method Sheets, routings, and associated processes; Participate in the transition of a product from concept to pilot line production and into mass manufacturing; Apply technical knowledge to innovate, design and develop processes, tooling, assembly fixtures and procedures; Implement and support Lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives; Analyze, develop, process, and implement Engineering Change Orders; Work with production staff and engineers to develop, validate, and improve processes used in manufacturing and manufacturability of designs; and Support analysis and disposition as member of the Material Review Board. Manage Vendors throughout the process of Tooling development from concept development to installation.
Job Requirements: Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field or foreign equivalent and 3 years of experience in automotive process and production engineering.
Will accept alternate requirements: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field or foreign equivalent and 5 years progressive post baccalaureate experience in automotive process and production engineering.
Special Requirements: Requires experience in: 1. Body Assembly process planning and development; 2. Vehicle Launch Project management; 3. Manufacturing cost and quality control; and, 4. Design for manufacturability planning.
