Gevo, Inc., an exciting, team-oriented company that is pioneering the advanced green energy industry, is looking for a
Process Engineer, based in Luverne, Minnesota at its subsidiary, Agri-Energy, LLC. The Process Engineer will be
responsible for safety, reviewing of designs, assisting with start-up and day to day operation of multiple hydrocarbon and
downstream development units in Luverne. In addition, this position will also be responsible for testing, start-up,
troubleshooting and successful operation of new fermentation and recovery technology at the Luverne, MN Plant.
Downstream hydrocarbon processing technologies include various catalytic reactors, some at high temperature and
pressure, as well as distillation and possibly other purification unit operations for products such as jet fuel, p-xylene and
others. The Process Engineer will create safety and operating procedures, start-up procedures, assist with HAZOP
reviews and work with Agri-Energy Plant Management, Gevo Engineering and Gevo Operations teams to ensure safe and
efficient operating of these processes. This position will work with quality assurance lab personnel and management to
ensure quality products as well as with logistics personnel to make sure products are shipped safely, correctly and ontime. They will identify critical process areas and optimize process results.
Requirements include:
? Requires a B.S. degree in chemical or a related discipline (will consider BSME) and a minimum of 3 years of
increasingly responsible professional (not academic) experience solving industrial problems;
? Strong plant operating skills;
? Strong knowledge of unit operation functionality including the strengths and weaknesses of various unit operations
and their limitations;
? Experience in collecting and analyzing data from pilot, demonstration and commercial operations to provide direction
for optimal process development;
? Experience in hydrocarbon, petrochemical processing and manufacturing;
? Ability to trouble-shoot process unit operations based on experience and broad overall background in chemical and
engineering sciences (e.g. process engineering, mechanical engineering);
? Preparing and delivering information in a concise, professionally written format;
? Preparing and presenting information to staff in a formal & informal setting;
? Working in teams, task forces, etc.;
? Directing/coordination work among teams, groups, etc.;
? Developing and/or creating new or more effective ideas, approaches, etc.;
? Developing and/or creating methods, procedures, training, etc.;
? Developing and formulating short-range plans/decisions;
? Analyzing and developing solutions to problems;

Responsibilities include:
? Responsible for safe startup of downstream hydrocarbon development facilities;
? Create start-up, safety and operations procedures for development facilities;? Individual integrates safety into operations and work practices;
? Assist with start-up of industrial scale fermentation and distillation systems;
? Review block flow diagrams, process flow diagrams and process and instrumentation diagrams;
? Review engineering calculations, mass and energy balances, and process equipment design;
? Utilize technical information from laboratory and pilot research information to enhance and improve development
plants;
? Review equipment and materials specification data sheets and user requirements for equipment and processes;
? Participate in process qualification, start-up and troubleshooting to achieve plant performance targets;
? Interpersonal effectiveness and teamwork: Interacts well in a team environment (clients, peers, vendors, contractors),
good communication at all levels in the organization. Open and flexible to changes in priorities and timelines, good
listening skills;
? Work with peers and management to support engineering scale-up efforts. Identify outside technology vendors,
evaluate equipment performance, conduct process trials, and make recommendations to management concerning
technical feasibility;
? Contribute to focused and productive engineering as a member of an interdisciplinary development team including
Engineers, Chemists, Technicians, Microbiologists, and Biochemists;
? Participate with legal counsel to protect and enrich the intellectual property portfolio of the Project. Identify through
careful, thoughtful, and thorough research, ways to increase value to the portfolio;
? Independently apply a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and
problems. Maintain broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories. Serve as in-house and outside
representative;
? Travel is required for portions of job duties;
? This position exercises a high level of independent decision-making. This includes research, demonstration plant
operations, identify and project - plan projects, and make recommendations to Director and VP level personnel.
