Process Engineering Manager
The Process Engineering Manager Position forms part of the Westmoreland manufacturing team but will work closely in cross-functional teams such as Engineering and Technical Operations. The primary responsibilities will be to supervise, organize and direct the efforts of the process engineering in manufacturing and to act as technical liaison between in-plant departments, assembly plants, technical centers, and material suppliers. This position would direct the department toward improvements key process performance indicators involving safety, quality, scrap, and cost reduction. This includes directing activities such as conducting HAZOP evaluations, sensitivity studies, verifying adequate MSA, process capability on key parameters, determination throughput capability, assuring materials/information traceability, and insuring proper documentation of work instructions.
Essential Job Functions:
Directs process engineering group in determination of steady state process capabilities for each process through proper training and use of statistical applications.
Ensures compliance by all departmental personnel to Aquion Energy safety and environmental practices. Directs projects to improve safety.
Lead the team in disciplined process engineering improvements by following a structured path such as Design for Six Sigma. For each respective process operation directs the process engineer to understand the important steps of developing a detailed process flowchart, identifying CTQ variables (C&E diagram, C&E matrix FMEA), performing MSA (identify testing required, frequency, & gage R&R), understanding & eliminating special cause variation (CC & process capability), and then apply DOEs to verify the robustness (sensitivity) of the process & the products it produces.
Take responsibility for insuring all changes & improvements are approved and documented in the respective SOPs, WI, & process parameter sheets.
Utilize leadership & team skills to insure good process stewardship (Safety, Quality, Service, and Cost) in a cross-functional team environment.
Improve overall quality consistency and product performance through self-initiated, independent process analysis, identification of problems, evaluation of alternate proposals, and assistance through implementation.
Establish and document manufacturing processes in support of new products, processes and material changes.
Assist with the design and implementation of custom manufacturing equipment
Use mechanical, chemical process and electrical knowledge to troubleshoot manufacturing process and equipment issues as they arise.
Promotes and executes quality standards, inspection processes, test methodology, quality plans, documents and reports.
Educate and coaching of operations and maintenance personnel to facilitate understanding of new processes
Participate in planning for commissioning & start-up
Maintaining full project chronology of process design revisions for use in validating contract change orders or defending spurious claims.

BS Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
10-15 years experience in process engineering with some level of management experience with exempt salary associates.
Experience in both chemical/powder processing and automated assembly preferred.
Proven abilities in using quality tools (SPC, Process Capability, Gage R & R, DOE, etc) to analyze, develop, and start-up mfg processes.
Diverse knowledge of analytical labs, inspection control methods, techniques and documentation.
Familiarity with GMP and/or ISO 9001.
Previous experience/certification in lean manufacturing highly desirable.
Previous experience or certification with Design for Six Sigma highly desirable.
Prior pilot operation & process development experience desirable.
